Description

The V-Press 825 plus is the most efficient machine in HSM's vertical range in the sense that matters to a facilities manager: it produces the heaviest bale per metre of building height. 250 kN, a 280 kg bale, 2370 mm tall and 1070 kg — more pressing force than the physically larger V-Press 820 plus, from a machine that is lower, shallower and 230 kg lighter.

The way it achieves that is worth understanding, because it explains the trade-off. The bale chamber is shorter: 700 mm of bale height against the 820's 1000 mm. More force into a smaller volume gives a denser bale, but the loading aperture is correspondingly lower at 1195 × 530 mm. Bulky, springy material is harder to get in. Heavy, flat material is not.

What's in the Box

The press on its own. Polyester strapping tape is a consumable bought separately, and the 480 V three-phase connection is site work. No handling equipment is supplied for moving finished bales, and HSM publishes no packing list for the machine.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is the press to specify when the building is the constraint. Retail back-of-house, hospital and hotel goods areas, basement service floors, older industrial units with low clear height — the 825 plus goes in where a 1160 will not, and it presses harder than the 820 plus while doing so. At 1070 kg it is also the lightest machine here, which matters if the floor loading has to be checked.

Where it is the wrong choice is bulky material. The 530 mm aperture is the lowest in the group, and if your waste is large part-flattened cartons or springy film, operators will spend time cutting material down to feed it. That is exactly what the V-Press 820 plus is better at: a 558 mm aperture and a taller bale chamber, at the cost of a lighter 250 kg bale and 129 mm more height.

It is also the wrong choice if you sell your cardboard by grade at volume. A 280 kg bale is handled and traded differently from a 550 kg mill bale, and if you are producing several tonnes a week the V-Press 1160 eco at 594 kN will change what your material is worth — provided you have 2985 mm of clear height for it.

Finally, if you want this exact press on a heavier frame, HSM also builds the 825 plus pro: same 250 kN and same 280 kg bale, 140 kg heavier and 202 mm deeper, with a 10 mm taller aperture. For a lightly used press, the standard version below is the more sensible purchase.

How does it press a heavier bale than the larger 820 plus?

By putting more force into a smaller chamber. The 825 plus applies 250 kN to a bale 700 mm high, while the 820 plus applies 178 kN to a bale up to 1000 mm high. The result is a physically smaller but denser bale: 280 kg against 250 kg. Density is what determines transport cost per tonne and how well bales stack, so smaller is not worse here.

What is the lowest ceiling it will go under?

The machine is 2370 mm tall. Allow working clearance above it and access to the loading aperture and you want roughly 2.6 to 2.7 m of clear height under the lowest obstruction. That makes it viable in retail back-of-house and basement service areas where the 2985 mm V-Press 1160 is simply not an option. Measure under sprinklers, ducting and lighting, not to the roof.

Will large flattened cartons fit through the aperture?

The aperture is 1195 x 530 mm, which is the lowest opening in this group. Fully flattened cartons feed fine. Part-flattened boxes and bulky springy material are harder work and may need cutting down, which costs operator time. If most of your waste arrives bulky rather than flat, the V-Press 820 plus with its 558 mm aperture and wider chamber is the easier machine to live with.

Is 1070 kg light enough for an upper floor?

It is the lightest press in this comparison, which helps, but 1070 kg empty plus up to 280 kg of bale plus dynamic loading during pressing is still a point load that should be checked by whoever is responsible for the structure. Do not assume a suspended floor or a mezzanine will take it. On a ground-floor slab it is unproblematic.

What consumables will I need to keep buying?

Polyester strapping tape, and nothing else routinely. It is applied manually, four-fold per bale, and needs no crimping tool or special equipment. Tape is not supplied with the machine, so order a starting stock with the press. Wire is only used on the larger V-Press 1160, where bale spring-back at 550 kg makes tape unsuitable.

Can it bale plastic film?

Yes, HSM rates it for cardboard, plastic film and mixed paper. Film bales lighter than cardboard for the same chamber because it compresses and rebounds differently, so do not expect 280 kg from a film bale. Keep materials in separate bales where you can: recyclers grade and pay on the worst component in a mixed bale, so combining streams costs you money.
