Description

HD 65 is the heavy-duty member of HSM's 65-series polyester baling tape: 950 kg breaking strength on a 16.1 mm web, supplied as a single 400 m roll weighing 7.1 kg. HSM describes its purpose in three words — "for special applications" — which in practice means bales that spring back hard enough to defeat standard tape.

Compatible Models

HSM publishes no model list for HD 65, and we are not going to guess one. What is documented is the tape's place in the range. The standard 65-series tape, WG 65 (article 6216993000), is 17.3 mm wide with 800 kg breaking strength, and HSM lists it for the CP 4988, Dixi 30S, Dixi 50S, Dixi 60S and HL 3521 S. HD 65 is narrower (16.1 mm) but stronger (950 kg) and noticeably heavier per metre — 7.1 kg per 400 m against 5.3 kg for WG 65 — which points to a thicker web.

Because the width differs from WG 65 by more than a millimetre, do not assume HD 65 will feed through a strapping head set up for WG 65. Confirm with HSM against your press serial number before ordering. A note on this page's own title: the 1,320 ft figure is a rounding of 400 m, which is 1,312 ft.

Tape is the cheapest part of a baling operation and the one that decides whether a bale survives handling. If you are seeing straps fail on the forklift rather than in the press, moving up in breaking strength is usually the fix — but check the strapping head clearance first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is one roll?

400 metres, which is about 1,312 feet. The roll weighs 7.1 kg (roughly 15.7 lb). HSM sells this article as a single roll only; there is no case pack, and HSM prints no core diameter for it, so if your press has a restricted tape magazine you should measure the existing roll before ordering. Product titles that quote 1,320 ft are rounding the 400 m figure upward by about eight feet.

What is the difference between HD 65 and WG 65?

They are not interchangeable despite the shared 65 designation. WG 65 (article 6216993000) is 17.3 mm wide with 800 kg breaking strength and 5.3 kg per 400 m roll. HD 65 is 16.1 mm wide with 950 kg breaking strength and 7.1 kg per 400 m roll. So HD 65 is narrower, stronger and substantially denser — a thicker web on a slimmer profile. The width difference matters at the strapping head, so treat them as separate parts rather than substitutes.

Which HSM presses take HD 65?

HSM does not publish a model list for this article, and we will not invent one. HSM's own catalogue entry says only “for special applications”. The related WG 65 tape is listed for CP 4988, Dixi 30S, Dixi 50S, Dixi 60S and HL 3521 S. If you are specifying HD 65 for the first time, quote your press model and serial number to HSM or to us and get written confirmation before ordering a pallet.

Do I need tape clamps as well?

Yes, if your press seals with clamps rather than a friction weld. HSM's clamp article is 6127990101, supplied 1,000 to a box. One clamp is consumed per strap. Clamps and tape are separate line items on every HSM order, and running out of one stops the press just as effectively as running out of the other.

Is 950 kg the breaking strength or the working load?

It is the breaking strength, which is how HSM lists it in its consumables table. Working load is always a fraction of that figure, and how large a fraction depends on how sharp the bale corners are, how much the material springs back after the platen lifts, and how the bale is handled afterwards. If straps are failing during forklift handling rather than in the press, the answer is usually more straps or a stronger tape, not tighter tension.
