What is the difference between this and the H-4 conveyor machine?
The number of cutting stages. This one cuts twice, ending at 0.39 x 1-1.18 in for a DIN 66399 H-5 rating; the H-4 machine cuts once at 0.78 x 1.5-2 in. The finer result costs throughput - 280 drives per hour against 360 - and about 800 lb of extra weight, 2,700.66 lb against 1,895.97 lb. Both have the same footprint, aperture and 208 V supply.
Can this run continuously through a full shift?
The conveyor removes the bin-emptying interruption, so the practical limits become the operator, the discharge container and the filtration rather than the machine. HSM does not publish a duty cycle or maximum continuous run time for the US 208 V article, so we will not quote a figure. Plan your line around container changes and operator rotation, and confirm any duty-cycle expectations with HSM in writing before you commit to a throughput SLA.
Does H-5 make it suitable for SSDs?
It is the strongest option in this range for SSDs, but avoid absolute claims. A 0.39 x 1-1.18 in particle is far more likely to breach NAND packages than the H-4 machine's 20 x 40-50 mm, though it does not guarantee every chip is destroyed. Sound practice is to combine H-5 shredding with verified cryptographic erasure where the drives support it, and to record both steps on the certificate.
How big a container does the belt need underneath?
That is your choice - HSM does not supply one. The machine stands 67.4 in tall overall and the belt discharges near the top of that, so a standard gaylord on a pallet or a wheeled tote both work. Measure your intended container against the discharge height before delivery, and leave clearance to roll it out full without moving the shredder.
Why do the US and European cut sizes not match?
HSM's US article data for 1777127F gives 0.39 x 1-1.18 in, while its European sheet for the equivalent 400 V machine gives 11.5 x 26 mm, or roughly 0.45 x 1.02 in. Both are within DIN 66399 H-5, so the rating is the same either way. We quote the US figure because it belongs to the article being sold. If a contract specifies an exact particle size, get HSM to confirm it for your serial number.
Is it NSA approved?
No. HSM does not appear on the current NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List for Hard Disk Drive Sanitization Devices and Deformers, nor on the earlier hard disk drive destruction devices list. We checked both. Any listing that claims blanket NSA EPL coverage for HSM hard drive shredders is inaccurate. For classified US government media, select equipment from the applicable EPL and follow NSA/CSS Policy Manual 9-12.
