HSM StoreEx HDS 150 Digital Data Media Shredder - HSM1772-1

The HSM StoreEx HDS 150 is the entry point into purpose-built drive destruction, and its defining feature is the power supply: it runs on 120 V single phase at 50-60 Hz. Every other machine in this class needs 208 V or three-phase service, so the HDS 150 can be installed in an ordinary IT store room or asset disposal bay without an electrician. It destroys up to 210 3.5-inch hard drives per hour with a 40 mm strip cut, rated DIN 66399 H-3.

• Solid steel cutting rollers with automatic reverse - the reverse clears a stalled item on its own rather than requiring the operator to open the machine.
• Carbon pre-filter and HEPA filtration - drive shredding produces fine particulate; the filtration keeps it out of the room.
• 10.6-gallon pull-out waste bin - small by paper-shredder standards, because shredded drive material is dense and heavy.

Specifications

HSM does not publish a drive power figure or a machine warranty term for the HDS 150 in the article data we can verify, so neither appears above. Ask your dealer to state both in writing on the quotation.

A note on NSA claims. Listings for HSM media shredders - including, until now, this one - have stated that HSM hard drive shredders are covered by the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List. We checked the current NSA/CSS EPL for Hard Disk Drive Sanitization Devices and Deformers and the earlier EPL for Hard Disk Drive Destruction Devices. HSM does not appear on either. If you are destroying classified US government media you must select a device from the applicable NSA EPL and follow NSA/CSS Policy Manual 9-12. DIN 66399 H-ratings are a European commercial standard and are not an NSA authorisation.

What's in the Box

The HDS 150 ships as a single assembled machine with its pull-out collection bin and filtration installed. At 1,177 lb it moves by freight on a pallet and needs a forklift or pallet jack at delivery - there is no realistic way to hand-unload it. Because of the size, weight and handling requirements, HSM ships this model FOB origin regardless of standard shipping policy; freight is quoted separately. Confirm floor loading and door widths before ordering.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

Buy it if you are an IT department, MSP or small ITAD operation that destroys drives in batches of tens rather than hundreds, and you want the machine in a room that has ordinary wall power. Two hundred and ten drives an hour is a lot of destruction for a single-phase device, and a documented H-3 result is defensible for commercial data protection.

Do not buy it if your policy specifies H-4 or H-5, or if solid state drives are the bulk of the work. A 40 mm strip leaves large fragments; SSD chips can survive intact at that size. For a finer result move to the StoreEx HDS 230, which is H-4 at 20 x 40-50 mm in single-stage form and H-5 at 0.39 x 1-1.18 in as a dual-stage machine - but note it requires 208 V. And if you are destroying classified government media, neither machine is on the NSA EPL and you should be buying from that list instead.
