Why is it called the X14 if HSM rates it at 13 sheets?
HSM's datasheet for article 1057123 states 13 sheets at 80 g/m2, which is the European test standard. Shredder capacities are commonly also quoted against lighter 70 g/m2 paper, where the same machine rates higher. We quote the 80 g/m2 figure because it is the one HSM publishes for this article and it is the conservative number.
Is the X14 the same machine as the X12?
Almost entirely. Same 4 x 37 mm P-4 cut, same 300 W motor, same 9.06 inch throat, same 6.1 gallon and 290-sheet bin, same 15.35 x 11.81 x 23.43 inch cabinet, same 27.56 lb weight. The published sheet rating differs by one. Choose between them on price.
Can I shred stapled documents without removing the staples?
Yes. HSM lists staples and paper clips among the materials this model shreds. Standard office staples and light clips are fine. Remove heavy binder clips, bulldog clips and ring-binder mechanisms — those are outside what the cutting head is built for and are a common cause of damage.
How full is 290 sheets in practice?
It is roughly a ream and a half of paper reduced to particles. For a four-person team each shredding five or six pages a day, that is around a fortnight between emptyings. The machine stops automatically when the container is full and the inspection window lets you see it coming.
Does the separate CD unit take one disc at a time?
Yes. It is a slot with its own cutting head, not a hopper. Insert one CD, DVD or plastic card, let it clear, then insert the next. The fragments collect in a container separate from the paper bin so the two waste streams stay sorted.
What happens if it overheats?
The LED panel has a dedicated overheat indicator. HSM does not publish a rated duty cycle or cool-down period for the X14, so we will not quote a figure. If the overheat light comes on, stop feeding and leave the machine powered and idle until it resets. Continuous feeding for long periods is not what an office-class shredder is designed for.
