The HSM shredstar X10 is a personal cross-cut shredder that turns paper into 3/16 x 1 1/8 in (4.5 x 30 mm) particles at DIN 66399 P-4, 10 sheets at a time. How the X10 differs from the X5 and X8

The X5, X8 and X10 all cut the same 3/16 x 1 1/8 in particle through the same 8.66 in slot, so security is identical. What changes is capacity. The X10 stands 17.52 in tall instead of 15.16, which buys a 5.3-gallon bin rated at around 250 sheets of waste, and its 160 W motor pushes 10 sheets per pass where the X8 manages 8 and the X5 manages 5. It still weighs only 13.67 lb, so it moves easily between rooms.

What P-4 means for your paperwork

DIN 66399 limits a P-4 particle to 160 mm²; the X10's measures 135 mm². That level is the usual written minimum for paperwork with personal data: bank and card statements, tax papers, payslips and medical bills. HSM also lists staples and paper clips as acceptable, so stapled letters can go in without sorting. The full classification is P-4, O-1, T-2, E-2 and F-1.

Using it every day

A light barrier starts and stops the cutters automatically, and the reverse function backs out a stack that is too thick. Discs and cards feed one at a time through their own cutter and collect apart from the paper. The bin sits under a lift-off top with an inspection window, and the machine stops when the bin is full. There are no castors, which is fine beside a desk but less convenient for shared use. HSM publishes no duty cycle; thermal protection with an indicator guards against overheating during long sessions.
