It is an ISO 32 anti-wear oil intended for both hand oiling of cutting rollers and topping up automatic oiler reservoirs. It works for oiling by hand and as the reservoir fill on machines with built-in automatic oiling. Particle-cut (cross-cut and micro-cut) machines are where it earns its keep: their cutters create more friction and paper dust than strip-cut heads, which get by on much less oil.

How to oil a particle-cut HSM shredder

HSM's shredstar cross-cut manual gives a good working routine. Put the machine in reverse, run a thin line of oil along the whole width of the cutting rollers, and repeat after each 15 to 30 minutes of continuous shredding. Other HSM models have their own intervals, so the manual for your machine takes priority. HSM also warns against oils not approved for shredders and against aerosol sprays or any flammable product near the machine, because of the fire risk.
