Description

HSM part 3200000006 is a single 12 fl oz bottle of HSM shredder lubricant – the standard maintenance size for one office or departmental machine. If you are running more than one shredder, or one that works most of the day, the six‑pack (part 3200000007) is the same oil in a more practical order size.

What is in the bottle is a plain mineral lubricant rather than anything exotic: hydrotreated heavy paraffinic petroleum distillate at 90–100%, ISO viscosity grade 32, blended for HSM of America by Spectrum Lubricants. The narrowed tip lets you lay a bead along the cutting head without flooding the throat, which is the usual mistake when people oil a shredder for the first time.

Compatible Models

HSM catalogues this lubricant for its shredder range generally rather than for one model.

  • HSM cross‑cut and micro‑cut shredders across the Classic, SECURIO, Pure and Powerline ranges
  • HSM machines fitted with an automatic oiler – use it to refill the reservoir

Always check your own manual first. Oiling requirements differ between strip‑cut and cross‑cut machines, and the correct method is not the same on every model.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much oil should I use each time?

Enough to wet the cutting head, not enough to pool. The usual method is a thin bead across the width of the throat on a sheet of paper, which is then fed through so the oil is drawn evenly onto the rollers. Over-oiling does not help and can leave residue on the first few shredded sheets. Check your manual, as some models specify a different method.

Is this the same as the 16 oz bottle?

It is the same oil in a smaller bottle. Part 3200000002 is the 16 fl oz (one pint) size; this one is 12 fl oz. Distributors also catalogue HSM's oil under HSM's own numbering, where the 12 oz bottle appears as 316 and the 16 oz as HSM314. Compare volume and pack count when cross-checking a quote.

Does my strip-cut shredder need oiling too?

Not on the same schedule, and on some models not through the intake at all. Regular lubrication is most important on cross-cut and micro-cut heads, where particle size means far more cutting edges in contact with the paper. Check your model's manual rather than applying a cross-cut routine to a strip-cut machine.

Can I use it in a machine with an auto-oiler?

Yes. HSM machines with a factory auto-oiler draw from an internal reservoir that you refill with this same lubricant, so the oil is not different, only the dosing is. Check your manual for the reservoir fill point and the correct level, because overfilling can push oil into the paper path and mark the first sheets through.

Is there a safety data sheet for it?

Yes. The SDS lists the product as hydrotreated heavy paraffinic petroleum distillate at 90 to 100 percent, classifies it as harmful if inhaled under acute inhalation category 4 with the signal word Warning, and carries a California Proposition 65 notice. Keep the container closed and store it away from strong oxidising agents and heat.
