HSM part 3200000006 is one 12 fl oz bottle of HSM shredder lubricant, an ISO VG 32 mineral oil for cross-cut and micro-cut cutting heads. It is the standard maintenance size for a single office or departmental HSM shredder. The narrow tip lets you run a thin bead along the cutters without flooding the feed opening, a common first-time mistake.

What is in the bottle

It is a simple mineral lubricant: hydrotreated heavy paraffinic petroleum distillate making up 90–100% of the contents. The amber oil has a mild hydrocarbon smell, a flash point of 414 °F and a pour point of −45 °F. Nothing exotic, which is what a cutting head needs.

How to apply it

Use enough to wet the cutters, never enough to pool. A common method is to draw a thin line of oil across a sheet of paper and feed it through so the cutters pick the oil up evenly. Too much oil does no good and can mark the first shredded sheets. Some models call for a different method, so check your manual. Keep the bottle beside the shredder; it gets used far more reliably there than in a store room.

Strip-cut machines need oil less often, and some should not be oiled through the intake at all.
