This HSM SECURIO P44i is article 1873 fitted with a second, independent 4 x 7 mm cutting unit for CDs, DVDs and cards. Paper still goes through the main head at P-4 (3.9 x 40 mm particles, 43-45 sheets at 80 g/m²), while discs enter their own slot and never touch the paper cutters. It is meant for a department that destroys optical media as a regular task alongside a steady flow of confidential paperwork.

Why a second cutting unit is worth paying for

The standard 1873 already accepts discs, but it cuts them with the same rollers that handle paper. Polycarbonate is hard on cutting edges, and the shredded plastic ends up mixed into the paper waste. Giving discs a dedicated 4 x 7 mm cutter solves both problems: wear on the paper head stays tied to paper volume, and plastic fragments can be collected apart for recycling. The smaller media particle is also what lifts HSM's published classes from O-3 and T-4 on the plain model to O-4 and T-5 here, a meaningful step if a records policy names an O-level for discs.

The 400 mm throat takes letter, legal and A3 sheets without folding. The second cutting unit does not change the footprint at 27.56 x 23.31 x 43.5 in; it simply adds weight.
