The HSM SECURIO P44i 1873 is a departmental cross-cut shredder that reduces paper to 3.9 x 40 mm (0.15 x 1.57 in) particles, which places it at P-4 under DIN 66399. It accepts 43-45 sheets of 80 g/m² paper through a 15.75 in (400 mm) intake and collects the waste in a 54.2-gallon (205 L) cabinet. It is aimed at a department that shreds personal, financial or HR paperwork every day and wants a single machine that does not hold people up.

Where the 1873 sits in the P44i lineup

All P44i articles are built on one cabinet: the same 1,900 W drive, the same 400 mm feed, the same touch display and the same 205-liter collection space. The only real decision is the cutting head. The 1873 is the middle choice. It is the coarsest particle cut HSM offers on this chassis, so it keeps a large sheet count, yet it reaches P-4, the level most written destruction policies name for personal and financial data. Moving to a strip head gains speed but drops to P-2; moving to a finer particle gains security but costs sheets per pass.

What P-4 covers, and what the 1873 accepts

At 156 mm² per particle the 1873 meets P-4 with a small margin. That is appropriate for contracts, invoices, patient paperwork, payroll and customer files. It is not a classified-material shredder: NSA/CSS 02-01 calls for a 1 x 5 mm maximum, which this head does not approach. Beyond paper, HSM lists staples, paper clips, credit cards, CDs/DVDs, USB sticks and floppy disks as approved, all fed through the main cutters. Occasional discs are fine; if optical media is routine, the version with a separate CD unit is the better buy.

1873 or another P44i head?

  • P44i 1871 (P-2): 5.8 mm strips at 77-79 sheets. Faster, but only for non-sensitive paper.
  • P44i 1872 (P-5): 1.9 x 15 mm particles at 25-27 sheets, for policies that specify P-5.
  • P44i 1875 (P-6): 0.78 x 11 mm at 17-19 sheets, and outside the lifetime roller warranty.
