HSM SECURIO P44i 1/8 Inch Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM1870

The HSM SECURIO P44i 1/8 inch strip cut (HSM1870) is a large departmental shredder that cuts paper into 3.9 mm strips at DIN 66399 P-2, taking 61-63 sheets of 80 g/m² paper per pass. It pairs a 15.75 in (400 mm) opening with a 54.2-gallon (205 l) cabinet, making it a fit for print-heavy departments that shred a lot of ordinary internal paperwork and want a slightly narrower strip than the 5.8 mm model.

The narrower of the two P44i strip cuts

HSM builds the P44i with two strip heads. The 1870 sits between the extremes: its 3.9 mm strip is narrower than the 5.8 mm cut on the HSM1871, at the cost of capacity, 61-63 sheets instead of 77-79. Both are P-2, so the choice is about strip width and speed, not about moving up a security class. US catalogs call this a 1/8 inch cut; the factory figure of 3.9 mm is 0.154 in, nearer to 5/32 in, so use 3.9 mm if a policy names a width.

P-2 allows particles up to 800 mm², and words remain readable along a 3.9 mm strip. That makes the 1870 suitable for engineering drawings, logistics paperwork, marketing proofs and expired internal reports, but not for HR, patient or customer records.

Handling a busy print room's output

The 400 mm opening takes letter, legal, tabloid and A3 flat, so mixed-size stacks go in together without folding. Staples and paper clips can stay in, and HSM also approves credit cards, CDs, DVDs, USB sticks and floppy disks for this head at O-2 and T-2. The touch display reports jams and raises a bin-full signal, which cuts down on confused calls about why a shared machine has stopped.

Strip waste is fluffy and fills the 205 liter cabinet faster than particle waste from the 1873 or 1875. Liners are HSM's reusable collecting bag or the P44i cardboard collection box, ordered separately.

Who the HSM1870 suits

Choose it for an engineering, logistics or marketing department where the bottleneck is people waiting at the shredder and the paper is not sensitive. Choose the HSM1873 or a finer cut if any of the paper names people or carries account or health details.
