The HSM SECURIO P44i 1/4 inch strip cut (HSM1871) is the highest-capacity shredder in the P44i range, slicing paper into 5.8 mm strips at DIN 66399 P-2 and accepting 77-79 sheets of 80 g/m² paper per pass. With a 15.75 in (400 mm) opening and a 54.2-gallon (205 l) cabinet, it is a bulk paper reducer for large volumes of non-sensitive material, not a tool for protecting personal data.

Speed from a deliberately coarse cut

A wide strip puts little load on the 1,900 W IntelligentDrive, and that is where the capacity comes from. The 1871 handles roughly a quarter more paper per feed than the 3.9 mm HSM1870 and close to twice the P-4 cross-cut HSM1873. For warehouses, schools, print shops and records rooms clearing pick tickets, expired catalogs, coursework or superseded drawings, that means fewer passes and less time at the machine.

The model name says 1/4 inch, but a quarter inch is 6.35 mm; HSM's actual figure is 5.8 mm. Quote 5.8 mm if your destruction policy names a strip width.

Security limits worth understanding

DIN 66399 lets P-2 particles reach 800 mm², and whole lines of print survive on a 5.8 mm strip. HSM rates this head E-2, O-2, P-2 and T-2, so it accepts staples, clips, credit cards, CDs, DVDs, USB sticks and floppy disks, but media fragments stay large enough that recovery is not ruled out. For anything regulated, from patient records to account statements, choose a P-4 or finer machine.

The cabinet rolls out on casters so waste can be taken straight to recycling. HSM lists a reusable collecting bag and a P44i cardboard collection box as liners; both are bought separately. Because strip waste is bulky, the cabinet fills faster per sheet than it would on a particle-cut P44i.
