HSM SECURIO P44i 1/32 x 7/16 plus OMDD cutting unit 2x2mm

The HSM SECURIO P44i 1/32 x 7/16 plus OMDD cutting unit 2x2mm (article 1875123M) is the P-6 version of HSM's large departmental shredder with a second cutter dedicated to optical media and cards. Paper is cut to 0.78 x 11 mm at 17-19 sheets per pass, while CDs, DVDs, credit cards and floppy disks are reduced to 2 x 2 mm pieces at class O-6. It is aimed at departments that need high-security destruction for both documents and small media and would rather run one machine than two.

Closing the one gap in the P-6 P44i

The standard HSM1875 is a capable P-6 paper shredder, but it has no optical media rating, so discs cannot go through it. This configuration adds an OMDD (optical media data destruction) cutter with its own slot and blades. A 2 x 2 mm fragment is just 4 mm², a serious result for a CD or DVD, and it lifts the machine's coverage to O-6 alongside P-6, E-5, F-3 and T-6.

Because the two heads are independent, discs never touch the paper cutters and each head wears separately. The disc fragments do not have to end up mixed into the paper waste, which matters if a fiber recycler collects your shredded paper.

Paper handling, limits and upkeep

Paper performance matches the base model: 0.78 x 11 mm particles that pass both P-6 tests, 17-19 sheets of 80 g/m² paper per pass, and a 400 mm opening that takes legal and A3 flat. Staples, paper clips and credit cards are approved. The 1,900 W IntelligentDrive powers both, and the touch display reports bin status and jams in plain language. An integrated oiler takes care of the micro-cut head.

Know the limits. The OMDD unit is fed by hand, one item at a time, and HSM does not publish a discs-per-hour rate for it. It is not rated for hard drives or SSDs; HSM's StoreEx HDS 150 and HDS 230 are built for those. Bags and the P44i cardboard box are ordered separately, and the lifetime roller warranty does not cover P-6 machines.

Which P44i media configuration fits?

• P44i 1/32 x 7/16 (HSM1875): the same P-6 paper machine without the media cutter, lighter and less expensive.
• P44i 1/32 x 7/16 plus metal detection and OMDD unit: this configuration with a metal detector ahead of the paper intake.
• P44i 1/8 x 1 1/2 plus separate CD cutting unit: P-4 paper at 43-45 sheets with a 4 x 7 mm media head at O-4, for volume over security.

Who the 1875M suits

Legal, R&D, government contracting and clinical research teams that produce both sensitive paper and discs are the natural buyers. If you never shred media, buy the plain 1875. If volume matters more than P-6, the P-4 version with a CD unit is faster.
