HSM SECURIO P44i 1/32 x 7/16 plus metal detection and separate OMDD cutting unit 2x2mm

The most fully equipped P44i HSM builds: P-6 micro cut for paper, a separate 2 x 2 mm OMDD head for optical media, and metal detection in front of the paper intake. The detector is the reason to choose this article over the otherwise identical OMDD version - it halts the machine before an overlooked binder clip, key, staple remover or pen reaches a 0.78 mm micro-cut head, which is the component least able to survive that mistake.

Every P44i shares the same cabinet and drivetrain: a 15.75-inch (400 mm) intake that swallows letter, legal and A3 sheets without folding, a 54.2-gallon (205 L) pull-out collection cabinet, a 1,900 W IntelligentDrive motor, and a touch display that reports bin status and jams in plain language. Idle noise is quoted at roughly 55 dB(A). The cabinet measures 27.56 x 23.31 x 43.5 inches (700 x 592 x 1105 mm), so it clears a standard 36-inch doorway on its casters but needs a dedicated footprint rather than a corner of a copy room. What changes from article to article is the cutting head - and that is the only thing you actually need to decide.

Specifications

We have deliberately left the shipping weight out of the table. HSM publishes 105 kg (231.49 lb) for this article - the same as the base machine - while listing 111 kg (244.71 lb) for the same machine with the OMDD unit but without the detector. The better-equipped article cannot weigh less, so one of the two published figures is wrong and we will not guess which. Ask your dealer for a shipping weight before booking freight.

One point of vocabulary: this article is listed in US catalogs as a "cross cut". At 0.78 x 11 mm it is properly a micro-cut - DIN 66399 places P-5, P-6 and P-7 in the micro-cut band, and P-6 requires both a particle area of 10 mm² or less and a width of 1 mm or less. A 0.78 x 11 mm particle is 8.58 mm² and 0.78 mm wide, so it meets both tests. This is a common mislabel worth catching: the same cut is frequently and wrongly published as P-5.

What's in the Box

The P44i ships as one assembled unit: shredder head mounted on its collection cabinet, power cord and operating manual. HSM classes the reusable collecting bag and the P44i cardboard collection box as consumables, which means they are ordered separately - no bags or boxes are included with the machine. Budget for a starter supply with the initial order so the cabinet is usable on day one. Freight is curbside on a pallet unless you arrange inside delivery; at over 230 lb this is not a two-person carry up a stairwell.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

Buy it if the machine will live on a shared floor at high security. Metal detection is insurance against the one user who feeds a whole folder without opening it, and on a P-6 head that mistake is expensive. Legal departments, defence contractors and research groups with mixed paper and media destruction are the natural buyers.

Do not buy it if one person or a small trusted team operates the machine and prepares documents properly - the 1875 plus OMDD cutting unit is the same machine without the detector, and the plain 1875 is the same again without the media head. If throughput matters more than security level, the P-4 1873 more than doubles the sheets per pass. As with every P-6 machine, HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty does not apply - it covers P-2 to P-5 only.
