What the detector adds to a P-6 micro-cut head

A 0.78 mm wide micro-cut head is the part of this machine least able to survive a binder clip, key, coin or pen slipping in with a folder. The metal detector senses metal entering the paper throat and halts the feed before the object reaches the rollers, then the touch display reports the stop so the operator can clear the item and carry on.

Ordinary staples and paper clips are approved materials for this head, so the detector is about the larger hardware that people overlook, not about forcing everyone to de-staple. It does not change cutting speed or the 17-19 sheet rating. Think of it as protection against operator error on a machine many people use, which is exactly where a P-6 cutter is most at risk.

Media cutter, cabinet and ownership notes

The OMDD unit has its own cutters, so discs and paper never share a head, and it reaches O-6 with 2 x 2 mm fragments. It is not rated for hard drives; the StoreEx HDS 150 or HDS 230 are the HSM machines for drives. On the paper side, HSM quotes 2,044 sheets of capacity for the 205 liter cabinet at this cut, and the machine signals when the bin is full. An integrated oiler lubricates the micro-cut head, and EcoSmart standby draws 0.1 W.

The weight is deliberately left out of the table. HSM publishes the same weight as the base 1875 for this article, yet a heavier figure for the OMDD version without a detector, so one figure must be wrong. Ask for a confirmed shipping weight before booking freight. Bags and the P44i cardboard box are separate purchases, and HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty does not cover P-6 models.
