Why this "cross cut" is really a P-6 micro cut

US catalogs list the 1875 as a cross cut, but by DIN 66399 standards it belongs in the micro-cut band. P-6 sets two tests: a particle area of no more than 10 mm² and a width of no more than 1 mm. A 0.78 x 11 mm particle measures 8.58 mm² and is 0.78 mm wide, so it passes both. The cut is sometimes misreported as P-5, which understates it.

In practice, P-6 is the level for material where the commercial baseline will not satisfy an audit: product development, litigation files, sensitive financial data and government contract work. It is not NSA approval, though. NSA/CSS 02-01 calls for a particle no larger than 1 x 5 mm and a listed model, and the 1875 meets neither.

What sharing a P-6 machine looks like

Most P-6 shredders are deskside units. The 1875 puts that level behind a 400 mm opening, so legal and A3 sheets go in flat, and a large pull-out cabinet. Micro-cut waste packs densely, which is why HSM can quote a figure of 2,044 sheets for the 205 liter cabinet with this head. Staples, paper clips and credit cards are approved. CDs and DVDs are not, since the head carries no O rating.

The trade-off is speed: 17-19 sheets is well under half of what the P-4 version takes. The automatic oiler matters here, as a micro-cut head depends on steady lubrication. HSM's reusable collecting bag and the P44i cardboard box are sold separately, and the lifetime roller warranty does not apply above P-5.
