Description

P-7 is the strictest paper class DIN 66399 defines, and this is HSM's large-chassis machine for it. Paper is reduced to 1 x 5 mm particles, 5 mm2 each, at the limit of what the standard allows, through a 400 mm throat into a 205 litre container. Everything about the machine is a consequence of that cut. HSM lists paper and nothing else as an accepted material, capacity falls to 11 sheets, and the lifetime cutting-roller warranty that covers the P-2 to P-5 models does not extend here. What you get in exchange is destruction that nobody is going to question.

Key Features

  • 1 x 5 mm particle cut, DIN 66399 P-7. 5 mm2 particles with a 1 mm width. P-7 is the strictest paper class the standard defines; nothing above it exists.
  • Large-format high-security chassis. 400 mm throat and 205 litre bin. Most P-7 machines are small-office units; this one is sized for sustained work.
  • 11 sheets per pass at 80 g/m2. Two more than the P40i equivalent, which over a long purge is a meaningful difference.
  • 1900 W IntelligentDrive. Three operating modes and automatic start and stop, driving a cutting unit that does an extraordinary amount of work per sheet.
  • Automatic paper-jam prevention. The control system recognises an over-thick stack quickly. On an 11-sheet machine that is a feature you will use.
  • Integrated automatic oiler. A 1 x 5 mm cutting unit will not tolerate poor lubrication. The machine oils itself and you refill it with HSM cutting block special oil.
  • EcoSmart standby at 0.1 W. A machine sized for a floor can be left switched on without a standing energy cost.

Sheet capacities are HSM's per-model figures at 80 g/m2 A4. HSM's range brochure quotes capacity at 70 g/m2, which reads roughly 15 percent higher, so figures quoted elsewhere may not match.

What's in the Box

Supplied as a floor-standing machine with the 205 litre container and factory-fitted automatic oiler. Collection bags and cardboard disposal boxes are not included: HSM lists a reusable collecting bag and a P44i cardboard box for this container, plus cutting block special oil. At 105 kg, confirm access and final position before delivery.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

Buy it if you have a written P-7 requirement and enough volume that the P40i 1 x 5 mm at nine sheets would be a bottleneck. The extra throat width and the 205 litre bin make long high-security purges practical.

Do not buy it if you need NSA-listed equipment. The P44i does not appear on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List for paper shredders dated July 2025; the HSM entry in this family is the SECURIO P40i L6 (1 x 5 mm) OMDD Combi. A 1 x 5 mm particle matches the NSA/CSS 02-01 dimension, but dimension is not approval. Do not buy it either if you also need optical media destroyed, because HSM lists paper only for this article: the version with the separate 2 x 2 mm OMDD unit adds O-6 and T-6 media classes. And if your real requirement is commercial confidentiality, the P44i 1.9 x 15 mm at P-5 does 25 to 27 sheets and keeps the lifetime cutting-roller warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this machine NSA approved?

No. It cuts to 1 x 5 mm, which matches the maximum particle dimensions in NSA/CSS Specification 02-01, but approval also requires the specific model to appear on the NSA Evaluated Products List, and the SECURIO P44i does not appear on the July 2025 edition. The HSM machine that does appear is the SECURIO P40i in its L6 (1 x 5 mm) OMDD Combi configuration. Anyone telling you a P-7 rating by itself means NSA approval is wrong.

Can it shred anything other than paper?

HSM lists paper only for this article, and the security classes quoted are F-3 and P-7 with no optical or data-carrier class. Do not feed credit cards, CDs, DVDs or USB sticks into it. If you need media destruction on the same machine, the P44i 1 x 5 mm with the separate 2 x 2 mm OMDD unit adds a dedicated media head at O-6 and T-6.

Do staples have to come out first?

Assume yes. Staples and office clips are not among the materials HSM lists for this article, unlike the P-2, P-4 and P-5 versions of the same chassis. A 1 x 5 mm cutting unit has very fine geometry and metal is a real hazard to it. Preparation time is a normal part of high-security shredding and should be built into whoever's job this is.

Why is capacity only 11 sheets?

Because of how much cutting a P-7 particle requires. Each sheet is reduced to 5 mm2 fragments rather than the 28.5 mm2 of the P-5 version, which is far more cuts and far more load on the drive. HSM quotes 11 sheets at 80 g/m2 for this article. Note that HSM's range brochure quotes capacities at 70 g/m2 and reads roughly 15 percent higher, so figures from different sources will not always match.

How does it compare with the P40i 1 x 5 mm?

Same cut, same class, larger machine. This P44i takes 11 sheets against 9, has a 400 mm throat against 330 mm and a 205 litre bin against 145 litres, and weighs 105 kg against 78. The P40i version is the one that carries an OMDD media unit and appears on the NSA list. Choose the P44i for volume and paper width; choose the P40i configuration if the NSA listing or media destruction is what matters.

What warranty does it carry?

The 3-year HSM SECURIO machine warranty. HSM's lifetime warranty on the solid steel cutting rollers covers security levels P-2 to P-5 only, so a P-7 machine falls outside it. That is a deliberate structure across the SECURIO range rather than something specific to this article, but it is worth knowing before you compare total cost against a P-5 model.

How much space and what handling does it need?

The machine measures 700 x 592 x 1105 mm and weighs 105 kg. Allow clearance in front for feeding and at least the depth of the container for emptying. Delivery and positioning need two people and a planned route; this is not a unit that gets moved on a whim once installed.
