HSM SECURIO P40i 3/16 x 1 1/8 with separate CD cutting unit 4x7mm

The HSM SECURIO P40i 3/16 x 1 1/8 with separate CD cutting unit (article 1883121C) combines a P-4 cross-cut paper head with a second, independent 4 x 7 mm cutter for optical discs and cards. Paper is reduced to 4.5 x 30 mm particles at 34-36 sheets per pass, while media drops into its own small container. It is meant for offices that destroy both paper records and discs or payment cards and want the two waste streams kept apart.

What the second cutting unit changes

On the plain P40i 4.5 x 30 mm, discs go through the paper rollers and only reach class O-3. Giving media a dedicated 4 x 7 mm cutter lifts the optical class to O-4, the data-carrier class from T-4 to T-5 and the electronic class to E-4. Just as useful in daily practice, broken polycarbonate and card fragments never land in the paper bin, so shredded paper can go to a recycler as a clean load and media waste can follow your e-waste route.

Separation also helps with record keeping. When a destruction log needs to show that discs or payment cards were handled distinctly from paperwork, two containers make that easy without anyone sorting through mixed waste.

Paper performance and everyday handling

Nothing on the paper side is compromised. The 4.5 x 30 mm particle is P-4 and the stack rating stays at 34-36 sheets of 80 g/m² paper. The 13 in (330 mm) opening takes letter, legal, A4 and A3 short edge first, and staples and paper clips can stay in. Feed CDs, DVDs, credit and loyalty cards and floppy disks into the media slot rather than the paper throat.

The 1300 W IntelligentDrive has three operating modes, and an integrated oiler lubricates the paper rollers automatically. For the main container, order HSM's reusable collecting bag or the P36i/P40i cardboard disposal box, plus HSM cutting block special oil; none of these come in the carton.

Picking between the 1883C and related P40i models

• P40i 3/16 x 1 1/8 (HSM1883): same paper head and capacity, but discs pass through the paper rollers at O-3 and land in the paper bin. It is also 6 kg lighter.
• P40i 1/16 x 5/8 plus separate CD cutting unit: the same 4 x 7 mm media cutter alongside a finer P-5 paper cut of 1.9 x 15 mm, at 19-21 sheets.
• P40i 1/32 x 3/16 with OMDD cutting unit (HSM1884M): P-7 paper at 1 x 5 mm and a 2 x 2 mm media cutter, at 9 sheets per pass.

Who the 1883C fits

Choose it if discs, payment cards or loyalty cards turn up often enough that mixing them with paper is a nuisance or a compliance question. If you only see a few discs a year, the standard HSM1883 is cheaper and handles them adequately. If the media holds highly sensitive data, a 2 x 2 mm OMDD configuration is the more appropriate class.
