HSM SECURIO P40i - 1/8 inch Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM1880

The P40i is the P36i's bigger motor in the same cabinet, and in 3.9 mm strip cut it takes 44 to 46 sheets a pass — ten more than the P36i on the identical cut. That is the entire argument for it: same 330 mm throat, same 145-litre bin, same footprint, 1,300 W instead of 1,000 W. Security level is still P-2, so this is a throughput purchase, not a security one.

The shredder arrives assembled on its wheeled cabinet with the reusable collection insert already fitted in the 145-litre bin, plus the mains lead and operating manual. Disposable plastic sacks are not included — the P40i bin is built around a reusable corrugated insert, available as a replacement under part HSM1850BOX, which also fits the P36i and the 940 series.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

A mailroom, records store or print room clearing large volumes of non-personal paper is exactly the use case. If people are queueing at an existing shredder, the 44–46 sheet capacity is what fixes that, and the 1,305-sheet bin means fewer interruptions to empty it.

Do not put personal data through it. P-2 leaves 3.9 mm strips that remain readable in places, and privacy programmes generally specify P-4 or finer. The direct upgrade in this cabinet is the P40i 1.9 x 15 mm (article 1882121) at P-5, which still manages 19–21 sheets a pass; if P-4 is enough, the P36i 4.5 x 30 mm (1853121) is cheaper. And if you want the same P-2 class with a wider strip and even higher capacity, HSM builds the P40i at 5.8 mm as well.

Before you order: the machine weighs 67 kg and arrives on a pallet, so plan for two people at the delivery point even though it moves easily on castors afterwards. It runs from a standard socket at 100 to 240 V, 50 to 60 Hz, and needs clearance at the front because the bin is withdrawn forwards through the cabinet door.
