HSM SECURIO P40i 1/32 x 7/16 plus metal detection and separate OMDD cutting unit 2x2mm

Metal detection is the reason to choose this article over the otherwise identical 1885121M. A sensor at the intake stops the machine if metal reaches the throat, so a forgotten bulldog clip, a binder spine or a USB stick in a folder does not reach the cutting rollers. On a P-6 micro-cut head, where the rollers carry hundreds of fine cutting edges and a replacement is not a cheap job, that protection is the difference between a ten-second interruption and a service visit.

Key Features

• Metal detection at the intake. The machine stops if metal parts are fed in, letting the operator remove the object before resuming. HSM's stated purpose is protecting the cutting unit, and on a P-6 head that is the expensive component.
• Separate 2 x 2 mm OMDD cutting unit. Optical media, credit and loyalty cards and floppy disks destroyed to 2 x 2 mm into a dedicated waste container, rated O-6 and T-6.
• P-6 paper cut at 0.78 x 11 mm. Approximately 8.6 mm2 per particle, inside both the area and the 1 mm width limits DIN 66399 imposes for P-6.
• Two waste streams. Paper in the 145 litre container, media in its own bin, so the paper stream stays clean.
• Departmental chassis. 330 mm throat, 1300 W IntelligentDrive, 145 litre bin, approximately 55 dB(A) at idle.
• Integrated automatic oiler. Continuous lubrication of the micro-cut rollers without a manual schedule.
• 4.3-inch touch display. Multi-language menu that names the fault when the metal detector trips, rather than just stopping.

Specifications

Sheet capacities are HSM's per-model figures at 80 g/m2 A4. HSM's range brochure quotes capacity at 70 g/m2, which reads roughly 15 percent higher, so figures quoted elsewhere may not match.

What's in the Box

Supplied with both cutting units fitted, the metal detection system installed at the intake, the 145 litre paper container, the separate media waste container and the factory-fitted automatic oiler. Bags and cardboard disposal boxes are not included and are ordered as consumables, as is HSM cutting block special oil.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

Buy it if your paper arrives unsorted from many people and you cannot rely on everyone stripping hardware first. Archive purges, mixed departmental waste and secure-bin collections are exactly where metal reaches the throat. Combined with the OMDD unit you get a machine that copes with a messy input stream at P-6.

Do not buy it if your feed is clean and controlled. The 1885121M is the same machine without metal detection and costs less. And if you need an NSA-listed machine, neither article qualifies: 0.78 x 11 mm exceeds the 1 mm x 5 mm particle limit in NSA/CSS 02-01, and the P40i configuration that appears on the July 2025 Evaluated Products List is the 1 x 5 mm OMDD Combi. As with every P-6 machine in this family, HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty does not extend past P-5.
