The HSM SECURIO P40i 1885121N is a P-6 micro-cut shredder, cutting paper to 1/32 x 7/16 in (0.78 x 11 mm) at 13-15 sheets per pass, equipped with metal detection at the intake and a separate OMDD unit that reduces discs and cards to 2 x 2 mm. Its full rating is E-5, F-3, O-6, P-6, T-6. It is built for sites where unsorted paper reaches the machine from many people and nobody can promise every clip has been removed.

What the metal detector does on a P-6 head

A P-6 cutting unit carries hundreds of fine edges, and it is the costliest part of the machine to replace. On the 1885121N a sensor at the intake halts operation when metal such as a staple, binder spine or forgotten clip is fed in, so the operator can remove it before carrying on. That turns a potential service call into a short pause. It works as an interlock rather than a sorter: it will stop mid-stack, so it pays off most where input is truly unpredictable, such as archive purges, secure-bin collections or mixed departmental waste. HSM does not publish the detector's sensitivity, so ask us how it reacts to ordinary staples in your workflow before ordering.

Media destruction and day-to-day care

The free-standing OMDD unit takes CDs and DVDs, credit and loyalty cards and floppy disks down to 2 x 2 mm into its own container, earning the O-6 and T-6 ratings and keeping the 38.3-gallon (145-liter) paper bin free of plastic. USB sticks are not on the verified materials list. Routine care is simple: refill the automatic oiler with HSM cutting block special oil, empty both containers, and clear the intake whenever the detector trips. The 4.3-inch multi-language touch display names the fault when the detector trips instead of simply stopping. Bags or cardboard disposal boxes are ordered separately.

It is not an NSA-grade machine: the 11 mm particle length exceeds the 1 x 5 mm limit of NSA/CSS 02-01. As a P-6 model, it carries a 3-year warranty without HSM's lifetime roller cover.
