HSM SECURIO P40i 1/32 x 7/16 Cross Cut Document Shredder - HSM1885

The HSM SECURIO P40i HSM1885 is a departmental P-6 shredder that cuts paper into 1/32 x 7/16 in (0.78 x 11 mm) particles of about 8.6 mm² each, at 13-15 sheets per pass. It keeps the P40i's full-size cabinet, a 13 in (330 mm) throat, a 38.3-gallon (145-liter) bin and a 1300 W IntelligentDrive, and still accepts staples and paper clips. It is the model to specify when a written policy or client contract asks for P-6.

Why 0.78 x 11 mm counts as P-6, not P-5

The long particle shape leads some buyers to assume P-5. DIN 66399 sets two conditions for P-6: an area no larger than 10 mm² and a width under 1 mm. At 0.78 x 11 mm the HSM1885 meets both, with 8.58 mm² per particle. It is a sensible choice for research data, legal discovery, unreleased financial results and personnel investigations, where defending P-4 would be difficult. It is not an NSA-grade machine, since the 11 mm length exceeds the 5 mm limit in NSA/CSS 02-01.

High security without a small machine

Many P-6 shredders are compact units that force users into tiny batches. The HSM1885 keeps a departmental footprint, and its solid steel rollers still take stapled and clipped paperwork, so nobody has to strip documents first. The IntelligentDrive offers three operating modes, letting you favor throughput or quieter running. Jam prevention spots an overthick stack on entry, which matters because people will try to feed more than 15 sheets. An integrated automatic oiler handles the lubrication micro-cut rollers depend on, and the multi-language touch display and 0.1 W standby round it out.

The bin takes HSM's reusable collecting bag or the P36i/P40i cardboard disposal box, and the oiler is topped up with HSM cutting block special oil; order these separately, as none come in the box.

Who the HSM1885 suits

Choose it when P-6 is written into a requirement and you want that class on a machine a whole department can use. CDs and DVDs are not on its materials list, and as a P-6 machine it carries HSM's 3-year warranty without lifetime roller cover. It weighs 158.7 lb (72 kg).
