The shredder arrives fully assembled on its wheeled cabinet with the reusable collection insert already fitted in the 145-litre bin, plus the mains lead and operating manual. Disposable plastic shredder sacks are not included, and the P36i is not designed around them — HSM's bin uses a reusable corrugated insert, sold separately as a replacement under part HSM1850BOX (it also fits the P40i and the 940 series).

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

If you are replacing a small office shredder because a data-protection audit flagged it, this is the obvious answer. P-4 is the level auditors expect for documents containing personal data, and 27–29 sheets a pass means people will actually use it instead of letting paper pile up in a confidential waste sack.

It is not the machine for classified or regulated high-security work — P-4 particles are 135 mm², and a P-5 or P-7 threshold is 30 mm² and 5 mm² respectively. For P-5 look at the P40i 1.9 x 15 mm (1882121); for P-7 and NSA-listed destruction, the P36i L6 OMDD Combo (1854123S). It is also not the machine if you routinely destroy CDs and DVDs: HSM offers this exact shredder with a separate 4 x 7 mm media cutting unit as article 1853121C, which is the version to buy for optical media.

Practical note before you order: at 68 kg this arrives on a pallet and needs two people to move it over a threshold or into a lift, even though it rolls freely on its castors once positioned. It takes a standard socket at 100 to 240 V and 50 to 60 Hz. Leave room at the front for the cabinet door to open fully, because the bin comes out forwards.
