HSM SECURIO P36i 1/32 x 3/16 plus metal detection and separate OMDD cutting unit 2x2mm

The HSM SECURIO P36i 1/32 x 3/16 plus metal detection and separate OMDD cutting unit (MPN 1854121N) is HSM's most fully equipped P36i. It combines a 1 x 5 mm paper cutter at DIN 66399 P-7, a separate OMDD unit that cuts discs, chip cards and magnetic media to 2 x 2 mm (O-6, E-5, T-6), and a metal sensor that stops the paper feed before metal reaches the rollers. It is designed for secure facilities where many different people feed one machine and mistakes have to be caught automatically.

What the metal detector does, and does not do

When the sensor picks up metal entering the paper throat, the machine stops before that item reaches the cutting rollers. It does not make staples safe to shred; it prevents the damage a missed staple would do to the most expensive and least tolerant assembly in the shredder. That matters more on a P-7 machine than anywhere else, because HSM's lifetime roller warranty does not apply at this level. Removing fasteners should still be standard practice.

Running paper and media through one cabinet

The two cutting units are built for different jobs. Paper and film go into the main 12.99 in (330 mm) throat; optical discs, chip cards and other data carriers go one at a time into the OMDD slot, never the reverse. Both units feed the same box, so if your disposal contract separates media waste from paper, plan for that.

Fine particles compress heavily, and HSM rates a 1 x 5 mm P36i at about 2,667 sheets per 145 l bin. The touch display (4.3 in, multilingual) signals a full bin and stops the machine. An automatic oiler keeps the micro-cut rollers lubricated, provided its reservoir is kept filled with HSM oil. Idle noise is about 55 dB(A), and standby draws 0.1 W.

Comparing the P-7 P36i configurations

• P36 L6 OMDD Combo (HSM1854M): the same P-7 paper cutter and a media unit, without the metal sensor; listed at 74 kg. On the NSA/CSS EPL.
• P36i 1 x 5 mm (HSM1854): paper and film only, no media unit and no sensor.
• P36i 1.9 x 15 mm (HSM1852): P-5, 16-18 sheets, a 5-year machine warranty, if P-7 is not truly required.

Note that the NSA/CSS EPL names the P36i (L6) and the P36i (L6) OMDD Combo. Before relying on this configuration for classified paper, confirm that the exact designation you order matches a current EPL entry; media destroyers are evaluated on a separate NSA list.

A records center, defense contractor's document room or government office where several operators destroy paper, discs and cards together will get full value from it. A single careful operator can save with the OMDD Combo, and a site with no media to destroy needs only the plain HSM1854.
