HSM SECURIO P36 L6 OMDD COMBO 1/32 x 3/16 plus separate OMDD cutting unit 2.2x4m - HSM1854M

The HSM SECURIO P36 L6 OMDD Combo (HSM1854M) is a floor-standing, two-slot security shredder: one slot cuts paper to 1 x 5 mm (approx. 1/32 x 3/16 in) at DIN 66399 P-7, and a separate OMDD cutting unit destroys optical discs, chip cards and magnetic media to O-6, E-5 and T-6. It runs on a 1000 W IntelligentDrive motor into a 38.3-gallon (145 l) compartment. It is aimed at government contractors, defense suppliers and secure records rooms that must destroy classified-grade paper and media in one machine, and the P36i (L6) OMDD Combo is on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List for paper shredders.

Why the media get their own cutters

Rollers fine enough to produce a P-7 particle would be damaged by polycarbonate disc fragments. Rather than compromise the paper head, HSM fits a second, sturdier cutting unit beside it. Both slots share one motor, one cabinet and one waste compartment, so a facility keeps a single machine and a single destruction log instead of a paper shredder and a separate media destroyer.

Living with a P-7 machine

Eight sheets per pass is correct for this cut, not a flaw: turning a page into particles of roughly 5 mm2 takes vastly more cutting than a P-4 head. The upside is density. Tiny particles pack hard, and HSM puts a 1 x 5 mm P36i at roughly 2,667 sheets per full bin, so emptying is infrequent. The touch display gives a full-bin warning and the machine stops.

Metal is the real enemy of these cutters. Remove staples and clips before feeding. If staff cannot be relied on to do that, the version with metal detection is the safer buy. Lubrication is automatic, but the oiler reservoir still needs topping up with HSM shredder oil, and the bin is lined with HSM's cardboard box for the P36i/P40i chassis, which is ordered separately. Idle noise is approx. 55 dB(A), and EcoSmart standby draws 0.1 W.

• P36i 1 x 5 mm (HSM1854): the same P-7 paper performance without the media unit.
• P36i 1 x 5 mm with metal detection and OMDD unit (1854121N): this layout plus a sensor that stops the feed before metal reaches the cutters; listed at 68 kg.
• P36i 0.78 x 11 mm: P-6 at 11-13 sheets, if P-7 exceeds your requirement.
• P36i 1.9 x 15 mm (HSM1852): P-5 at 16-18 sheets, with the longer warranty.

Who should order the Combo

Order it when your rules call for P-7 paper destruction and you also hold discs or cards that must be destroyed on site. Skip it if shredding volume, not security, is the main concern, or if no media need destroying: a single-purpose P36i will cost less and do the paper job identically.
