HSM SECURIO C18 1/8 x 1 1/8 Cross Cut Document Shredder - HSM1913

The HSM SECURIO C18 1/8 x 1 1/8 (HSM1913) is a deskside cross-cut shredder producing 3.9 x 30 mm particles to DIN 66399 P-4, at 8-9 sheets per pass on a 360 W motor. Of the P-4 machines in HSM's C-series it has the highest throughput, and its 6.6-gallon (25 l) container holds roughly 351 sheets of waste. It is built for a small office where two or three people shred confidential paper and want a machine close at hand.

Where the HSM1913 sits in the C-series

Think of this as the top step of HSM's personal P-4 ladder. The C14 and C16 cross-cuts make a 4 x 25 mm particle at 5-7 sheets on smaller motors; the C18 cabinet adds a 360 W drive, a wider throat and a heavier 24.25 lb build, and with this cutter it moves to 8-9 sheets. Of all the C-series models, this is the one that behaves most like a compact office machine.

The particle head also changes how much the bin holds. In the identical 25 l container, the strip-cut C18 fits about 165 sheets because loose strips take up space; the 3.9 x 30 mm particles pack down, giving about 351. In practice that turns a daily emptying job into a weekly one.

P-4 in plain terms, and the media limits

DIN 66399 lets a P-4 particle reach 160 mm2, and this one is 117 mm2. That is the usual requirement for paper with personal data: staff files, invoices, medical forms, customer letters. Credit and chip cards are accepted. What this cutter does not have is an optical media rating, so CDs and DVDs must not go in; that rating belongs to the strip-cut C18 only.

Controls and ownership

A light barrier starts and stops the cutters automatically, a reverse function clears a stalled feed, overload protection guards the motor, and standby uses 0.1 W. Staples and paper clips can stay in; remove bulldog clips and plastic binding spines. Idle noise is quoted at approx. 55-58 dB(A). It ships assembled, with no bags supplied; the container is emptied directly and has an inspection window.

Right for your office?

Yes if two or three people handle personal-data paperwork and P-4 is the stated requirement. No if discs need destroying, if the policy says P-5, or if a whole department will feed it: personal-class machines are made for intermittent use, and that is where the P36i comes in.
