HSM SECURIO C16 5/32 x 1 Cross Cut Document Shredder - HSM1902

The HSM SECURIO C16 5/32 x 1 (HSM1902) is a personal cross-cut shredder that reduces each sheet to 4 x 25 mm (approx. 5/32 x 1 in) particles, rated P-4 under DIN 66399, at 6-7 sheets per pass. It pairs a 185 W motor with a 6.6-gallon (25 l) container, which makes it a sensible fit for a solo professional or a two-person office that destroys confidential paper every day in modest amounts.

HSM builds the C16 in strip-cut and cross-cut form on one chassis. This HSM1902 version swaps the 5.8 mm strip head for a cutter that chops each strip crosswise into short particles. You give up speed for that: the strip-cut C16 manages 15-17 sheets a pass, this one 6-7. In return, the waste moves up two DIN steps, from P-2 to P-4, and it compacts far more densely in the bin, so each emptying covers more paper.

Against its smaller twin, the C14 cross-cut, the cut and throat are the same. The C16 adds height, a 185 W motor in place of 160 W, one extra sheet per pass and a bigger container: 25 l versus 20 l, or roughly 230 sheets of waste versus 184.

What a 100 mm2 particle protects

DIN 66399 allows a P-4 particle up to 160 mm2, so the C16's 100 mm2 output sits well inside the limit. P-4 is the level most privacy and data-protection policies ask for when paper carries personal details: payroll slips, patient forms, client letters, bank statements. The T-4 and E-3 ratings mean plastic cards with magnetic stripes or chips can go through the same opening, one at a time.

Day-to-day use of the HSM1902

A light barrier starts the rollers when paper enters and stops them once it has passed, and a manual reverse frees a stack that stalls part-way. In standby the machine draws 0.1 W. The container pulls out rigid, with no bags required, and an inspection window lets you check the level before it fills. Noise is quoted at approx. 55-60 dB(A) at idle.

Is the HSM1902 the right size for you?

It suits one person, or two sharing a desk area, who shred personal data daily but rarely face a box of files: a practice front desk, a bookkeeper, a legal assistant. Three or more regular users, or a policy that demands P-5, will outgrow it; move up to the C18 or the P36i range instead.
