HSM SECURIO C16 1/4 inch Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM1901

The HSM SECURIO C16 HSM1901 is a desk-side strip-cut shredder that cuts 5.8 mm (about 1/4 in) strips at 15-17 sheets per pass, rated P-2. Its 185 W motor and wide strip give it a lot of speed for a housing only 14.41 in wide, which suits a single desk that produces plenty of disposable, non-sensitive paper.

Where the HSM1901 is fast, and where it falls short

The wide 5.8 mm strip is what lets the C16 clear 15-17 sheets per pass; the narrower 3.9 mm C16 takes 12-14. It works well for packing slips, superseded reports, meeting handouts and other paper that simply should not sit in an open recycling bin. It is the wrong tool for anything a regulator or client might ask about, because long 5.8 mm strips can still carry readable text. For those documents the same housing is available as the P-4 C16 HSM1902.

Managing strip waste in a 6.6 gallon bin

Strip waste is springy, so the container fills by volume long before it gets heavy, and a machine that eats 17 sheets at a time can fill it quickly. A window in the housing shows the level without opening the machine. Place the shredder where the bin can be emptied without being carried across the office. Automatic start and stop, a reverse function and 0.1 W EcoSmart standby keep operation simple, and idle noise is about 55-60 dB(A). Staples, clips and credit or chip cards are approved; optical discs are not.

Who should buy the HSM1901

It is a good fit for one person, or two light users, who need to destroy a high volume of routine paper fast in a small space. If documents contain names, account numbers or medical details, step up to the P-4 C16. If three or more people will use it every day, a personal C-series machine will bottleneck; look at a departmental model instead.
