The HSM SECURIO C14 HSM2253 is a small P-4 cross-cut shredder that turns paper into 4 x 25 mm particles (about 5/32 x 1 in) at five to six sheets per pass. It is aimed at one person handling genuinely confidential paper in limited space, such as a bookkeeper, practice manager or home office with client files.

P-4 protection in the smallest SECURIO housing

P-4 is the level data-protection guidance usually points to for personal information, and the C14 HSM2253 delivers it in HSM's most compact SECURIO body. Its 100 mm² particle is well within that class, and the extra E-3, F-1 and T-4 ratings mean chip cards, magnetic-stripe cards and film can go through the same slot. The trade-off is plain: the 160 W motor that slices 10-12 sheets into strips on the HSM2250 handles five or six sheets when it has to cut particles. For a single user that is usually acceptable; for a team it is not.

Day-to-day use of the HSM2253

A light barrier starts and stops the cutters automatically, and a reverse function clears a misfeed. Staples and paper clips are fine on the induction-hardened rollers. There is no bag to buy: particles collect in a pull-out container that you tip out, and because cross-cut waste packs densely it holds about 184 sheets despite its small size. Standby draw is 0.1 W, and the machine idles at about 55-60 dB(A). HSM treats the C14 as a short-burst personal machine, so work through large stacks in batches.

Is the HSM SECURIO C14 HSM2253 secure enough for personal data?

For most offices, yes. It is rated P-4 under DIN 66399 and cuts 4 x 25 mm particles of 100 mm², the level most data-protection policies point to for personal and confidential paper. Check your own policy if it names a specific level, as P-5 or higher calls for a different machine.

Can the C14 HSM2253 shred credit cards?

Yes. Credit and chip cards are on its approved list, backed by T-4 and E-3 ratings. CDs and DVDs are not approved because the model has no optical media rating, so feeding discs could damage the rollers.

Why does the HSM2253 take only five or six sheets?
