HSM SECURIO B35 1/4 Inch Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM1921

The HSM SECURIO B35 HSM1921 is a high-volume strip-cut shredder that slices paper into 1/4 in (5.8 mm) strips at 35-37 sheets per pass, the highest capacity on HSM's 400 mm B35 cabinet. Rated P-2, it is built for clearing large amounts of non-confidential paper such as archive purges, print-room waste and operational paperwork, not for personal or regulated records.

Where the HSM1921's speed comes from

A strip cutter only slices in one direction, and the 5.8 mm strip is the widest HSM offers on this cabinet, so the 700 W drive spends little effort on each page. The result is a stack size well beyond the cross-cut B35 models, more than double the P-5 machine's capacity. The same simplicity lets the head handle discs and cards fed one at a time, so an occasional CD does not need a separate machine. The cost is security: a 5.8 mm strip leaves whole words readable along its length, which is why P-2 is meant for general internal documents only.

Bin, bags and placement for bulk clear-outs

Strip waste is springy and bulky, so the 130-liter container fills by volume rather than weight; HSM rates it at about 855 sheets for this cut, fewer than the finer cuts on the same cabinet. On a big archive day, keep spare bags ready. HSM sells reusable collection bags for the B35 in packs of 10 or 100, and offers a cardboard box insert. The cabinet is designed for continuous running, idles at about 56 dB(A), and HSM's lifetime warranty covers the solid steel rollers on this P-2 model.

Other ways to configure the B35

• HSM1920: a finer 3.9 mm strip at 26-28 sheets, still P-2.
• HSM1923: P-4 cross cut at 4.5 x 30 mm and 21-22 sheets, the step to take once personal data is involved.
• B34 1/4 in strip (HSM1841): the same 5.8 mm cut at 30-32 sheets on a narrower 310 mm cabinet with a 100 L bin.

Good fit, poor fit

The HSM1921 earns its place in mailrooms, warehouses, print shops and archive projects where the goal is to get rid of a lot of paper quickly. Do not buy it for HR, medical, customer or financial records; P-2 strips are reconstructible, and a P-4 or P-5 B35 is the right tool for that paper.
