Description

The HSM SECURIO B35 1/32 x 7/16 inch (0.78 x 11 mm) is HSM's DIN P-6 configuration of the 400 mm chassis, supplied with the external automatic oiler. The 0.78 mm particle width is what earns P-6 rather than P-5: at 8.6 mm² the particle is under the 10 mm² ceiling and the width is under 1 mm. It is the sensible stop between the P-5 model, which is faster and still under lifetime roller warranty, and the P-7 model, which halves throughput again and refuses anything but paper. This one still eats staples and paper clips.

Key Features

  • 15.75" throat (400 mm). Letter, legal and A4 feed in unfolded; the B35 chassis also clears 11 x 17 in tabloid and wide continuous stationery.
  • DIN 66399 level P-6 at 1/32" x 7/16" (0.78 x 11 mm). Verified from HSM's own European datasheet rather than a distributor listing, so the security class and the cut geometry agree.
  • 9 sheets per pass at 80 g/m². HSM rates capacity at 80 g/m²; standard US 20 lb bond is about 75 g/m², so expect slightly more in practice, not less.
  • 34.3 gal (130 L) container built into the cabinet. HSM rates that at roughly 1,300 shredded sheets for this cut.
  • External automatic oiler fitted from the factory. Lubricant is metered onto the cutting rollers on a schedule, which removes the most commonly skipped maintenance task on a shared machine.
  • Handles staples and paper clips. Credit cards and optical media are not rated for this cutting head.
  • 700 W drive, approximately 56 dB(A) at idle. Quiet enough to sit in an open office rather than a service room.
  • Note on roller warranty: HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty covers P-2 to P-5 models. This P-6 machine is outside that cover - a real trade-off worth pricing in.

What's in the Box

The shredder ships assembled: cutting head, cabinet and the integrated 130 L collection container, plus the power cord and operating instructions. The external automatic oiler is fitted to the cabinet on this SKU; that is what accounts for the wider footprint against the standard model.

Shredder bags are not included. HSM lists collection bags and cutting-block oil as separate consumables. The bags for this chassis are the reusable collection bags for HSM 390, 411, 630, 730, 740, 830, SECURIO B35, SECURIO P36i and P40i, sold in packs of 10 or 100 (1442995000 / 1442995110 / 1442995001); a cardboard box - b35 is also available. Order at least one pack with the machine.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this if your policy specifies P-6, or if you want materially more security than P-5 without dropping to five sheets a pass. Nine sheets of 80 g/m² paper per pass through a 400 mm throat is usable for a small secure department, and unlike the P-7 model this one still swallows staples and paper clips, so documents do not need prepping.

Do not buy this if you are choosing on security class alone. P-6 and P-7 machines sit outside HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty, which covers P-2 to P-5 - so moving from the SECURIO B35 1/16 x 5/8 inch (HSM1922) at P-5 to this model costs you both throughput and warranty cover. Also note it will not take credit cards or CDs. If the requirement is genuinely P-7, the SECURIO B35 1/32 x 3/16 inch with oiler is the model that reaches it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it take staples and paper clips, or do I need to remove them?

Staples and paper clips are fine - HSM lists both among the shreddable materials for this 0.78 x 11 mm head, so stapled sets can go straight in. Credit cards and optical media are not rated for this cutting head and should not be fed. That is a meaningful advantage over the P-7 version of the same machine, which accepts paper only and forces you to de-staple everything.

How many people can share this machine before it becomes a bottleneck?

That depends on volume rather than headcount, but the useful figures are 9 sheets per pass and a 130 L container holding about 1,300 shredded sheets. As a rough guide, a P-6 machine like this suits a workgroup that generates up to a few hundred pages of shredding a day. If people start queuing, the constraint is almost always the security level rather than the motor - a lower DIN class on the same chassis runs considerably faster.

Is the sheet capacity figure realistic for US paper?

The 9 sheet rating is HSM's own figure measured at 80 g/m² paper. Standard US 20 lb bond letter is about 75 g/m², so on typical American office paper you should meet or slightly beat the rating. Be aware that HSM's overview brochure quotes capacity at 70 g/m² instead, which produces numbers roughly 15 percent higher; if you are comparing our spec against a brochure figure, check which paper weight each one uses.

Will legal and tabloid paper fit?

Yes. The throat is 15.75 in (400 mm), so 8.5 x 14 in legal and 11 x 17 in tabloid both feed in unfolded, as does A4 and A3 fed short edge. Wide continuous computer stationery also clears. This throat width is the main practical reason to choose the B35 over the narrower SECURIO B34, whose 310 mm intake handles letter, legal and A4 but leaves less margin on oversized stock.

Is this shredder NSA approved?

We have not verified a listing for this model on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List, so we do not claim NSA approval for it. Those two things are separate: NSA/CSS 02-01 requires a maximum particle of 1 mm x 5 mm and the specific model must appear on the NSA's own list. A DIN 66399 rating on its own - including P-7 - does not establish NSA approval. If you have a classified-destruction requirement, verify the model number directly against the current NSA EPL before ordering.

What bags fit this model, and are any included?

No bags are supplied with the machine. This chassis uses HSM's reusable collection bags for HSM 390, 411, 630, 730, 740, 830, SECURIO B35, SECURIO P36i and P40i, available in packs of 10 or 100 under part numbers 1442995000 / 1442995110 / 1442995001. Generic 34.3 gal liners will physically fit the 130 L container but often tear at the fold or slip off the frame, which makes emptying messier rather than cheaper. HSM also offers a cardboard box - b35 as an alternative to plastic.

How does the external automatic oiler work, and does it need topping up?

The oiler is a reservoir unit mounted on the side of the cabinet that meters HSM cutting-block oil onto the rollers automatically during operation, so nobody has to run oiled sheets through by hand. It is a consumable system: the oil reservoir needs refilling with HSM's cutting-block special oil, and you should keep a bottle on hand. Note that the oiler adds 50 mm to the cabinet width against the standard model, so check your clearance before ordering.

Can it run continuously, and how loud is it?

HSM builds the SECURIO cabinet range for continuous operation rather than short duty cycles, so it is designed to run through a full bin rather than needing a cooling pause every few minutes. Sustained overloading will still trip the thermal protection; feeding at or under the rated 9 sheets avoids that. Noise is around 56 dB(A) at idle, which is quiet enough to place the machine in an open-plan office rather than banishing it to a service room.
