HSM SECURIO B34 - 1/4" Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM1841

The HSM SECURIO B34 1/4 inch (HSM1841) is a high-volume strip-cut shredder that cuts 5.8 mm ribbons at DIN 66399 P-2 and accepts 30 to 32 sheets of 80 g/m² paper per pass, the largest bite of any B32 or B34 model. With a 700 W motor and a 100-liter bin, it is built for mailrooms, records offices and schools clearing large amounts of non-confidential paper.

Where the extra money goes on the B34 strip cut

Compared with the B32 in the same 5.8 mm cut, three things change: the motor rises from 610 W to 700 W, the bin grows from 82 to 100 liters, and capacity climbs from 25-27 to 30-32 sheets. What does not change is the feed opening. Both machines have a 310 mm throat, so the B34 will not take anything wider than the B32 does. Letter, legal and tabloid all fit short edge first.

A strip cut also keeps running costs low. HSM does not put strip-cut heads of this size on its oiling schedule, and there is no oiler variant of this model. The induction-hardened steel rollers carry a lifetime warranty and accept staples, paper clips, credit cards and CDs or DVDs, so a cabinet clear-out does not need sorting first.

Running it in a busy room

The cutters start and stop by themselves when a light barrier sees paper, and EcoSmart control cuts standby use to 0.1 W. Idle noise is about 56 dB(A). Strip waste is bulky, so the 100-liter container fills at roughly 658 sheets; on a heavy clear-out, expect to empty it more than once. A cardboard box made for the B34 can be used instead of bags.

• B32 1/4 in strip cut (HSM1821): the same 5.8 mm cut at 25-27 sheets in a smaller 497 x 398 x 793 mm cabinet with an 82-liter bin.
• B34 1/8 in strip cut (HSM1840): narrower 3.9 mm strips at 25-27 sheets, still P-2.
• B34 1/16 x 5/8 (HSM1842): the same cabinet at P-5 with 1.9 x 15 mm particles, for paper that contains personal data.

Who the 1/4 in B34 is for

It suits places where speed is the job and the paper is not sensitive: old print runs, archived drafts, marketing waste. It is the wrong buy for anything subject to a privacy rule, because P-2 ribbons can be reassembled. Offices with modest volumes can save floor space with the B32.
