Frequently Asked Questions
What does the oiler add over the standard P-7 B34?
Automatic lubrication of the cutting rollers during operation, and 50 mm of extra cabinet width. Cutting performance, sheet capacity, security level and bin volume are identical. The value is entirely in maintenance: micro-cut heads lose performance quickly when they run dry, and shared machines are the ones where manual oiling gets skipped.
How often does the oil bottle need replacing?
HSM does not publish an interval, because it depends on how much you shred. Treat it as a consumable and check the level each time you empty the waste container. Keep a spare bottle of HSM shredder oil on site; using a generic lubricant of the wrong viscosity can leave residue on the rollers.
Is oil supplied with the machine?
We could not verify from HSM's published documentation whether a filled bottle ships with the unit. The safe assumption is that it does not - order HSM shredder oil with the machine so the oiler is usable from day one.
Is it NSA approved for classified destruction?
We have not been able to verify an NSA Evaluated Products List entry for this model. The 1 x 5 mm particle satisfies the size requirement in NSA/CSS Specification 02-01, but approval also requires current EPL listing, which is a separate check. Confirm against the current list before relying on this machine for classified material.
Can stapled documents go in?
No. HSM rates this model for paper only. The tolerances in a 1 x 5 mm cutting head make staples and paper clips a real hazard to the rollers, and damage from foreign objects is not a warranty matter. Budget operator time for de-stapling, or choose the P-6 B34 at 0.78 x 11 mm, which is rated for fasteners.
What space and access does it need?
591 mm wide, 439 mm deep, 845 mm high, 42 kg. Leave room in front to draw the 100-litre container out fully and access on the oiler side for bottle changes. Because of the weight, check the delivery route - doorways, lifts and thresholds - before it arrives.
Does the lifetime cutting-roller warranty cover it?
No. HSM's lifetime roller warranty applies to security levels P-2 to P-5 only, so a P-7 machine is excluded and the rollers sit under the standard machine warranty. If long-term cutting-head cover matters more to you than the last two DIN levels, the 1.9 x 15 mm P-5 version of this cabinet keeps the lifetime warranty. We could not verify the standard US warranty term from HSM's documentation.
