Description

This is the SECURIO B32 most offices should actually be looking at: a 4.5 x 30 mm cross cut at DIN 66399 P-4, with HSM's external automatic oiler fitted at the factory. P-4 is the level most internal data-protection policies land on, and the oiler removes the one maintenance job that cross-cut owners reliably forget. It takes 14 to 16 sheets of 80 g/m2 paper per pass and drops the waste into the same 82-litre pull-out container as the rest of the B32 line.

Key Features

  • 4.5 x 30 mm particle at P-4. Each particle is 135 mm2, comfortably inside the 160 mm2 ceiling DIN 66399 sets for P-4. This is the level most privacy policies and internal shredding standards specify by name.
  • External automatic oiler, factory fitted. A cross-cut head needs lubrication to keep cutting cleanly and to avoid overloading the motor. The oiler applies it on a schedule instead of relying on someone remembering to spray the throat, which is the single most common cause of premature cutting-head wear.
  • Rated for optical media and cards. HSM lists this model at O-3 and T-4 as well as P-4, so CDs, DVDs and card-type data carriers are within what the machine is built for.
  • Staples and paper clips go straight through. The induction-hardened solid steel rollers do not require documents to be de-stapled first.
  • 82-litre bin, roughly 1,002 sheets of P-4 waste. Cross-cut particles pack far more densely than strips, so this cabinet holds nearly twice as many shredded sheets as the 5.8 mm strip version despite the identical bin.
  • Wider cabinet than the standard B32. The oiler adds 50 mm to the width - 547 mm rather than 497 mm. Check the alcove before you order.

What's in the Box

The HSM SECURIO B32 arrives assembled: the cutting head and cabinet are a single unit, with the 82 l (21.7 gal) waste container in place behind the cabinet door, plus the mains lead and the HSM operating manual. The external automatic oiler is mounted on the cabinet at the factory; nothing needs assembling on site.

Shredder bags and HSM's fitting cardboard waste box are consumables and are not included — order them with the machine if you do not intend to empty the container loose. We could not confirm from HSM’s published documentation whether a filled oil bottle ships with the unit, so add HSM shredder oil to your order and use HSM’s own oil rather than a generic lubricant.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this if you have a written data-protection policy that names P-4, or if you handle client paperwork, HR files and invoices and want a defensible answer when someone asks how you destroy them. The automatic oiler is worth the premium in any environment where no single person owns shredder maintenance - which is most of them.

Do not buy it if your requirement is genuinely high security. P-4 particles are 135 mm2; P-5 drops that to 30 mm2 and P-6 to 10 mm2. If you are destroying anything at the level where a reconstruction attempt is a realistic threat, look at the SECURIO B34 at 1.9 x 15 mm for P-5, or the B32 at 0.78 x 11 mm for P-6. Equally, do not pay for the oiler if you are buying a shredder for a single owner-operated desk where you will happily oil it yourself - the same machine is sold without it. And if 14 to 16 sheets a pass will not keep up with your volume, the B34 cross cut is the larger version of this same idea.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the automatic oiler actually do?

It meters shredder oil onto the cutting rollers automatically as the machine runs, rather than requiring an operator to spray oil across the feed opening every few bins. Cross-cut heads generate more friction than strip cut and lose cutting performance as they dry out. The oiler is a consumable-fed device: the oil bottle empties and has to be replaced, so budget for refills.

Is an oil bottle included with the machine?

We could not confirm from HSM's published documentation whether a filled bottle ships with the unit. Assume it does not and add HSM shredder oil to your order - it is inexpensive and you will need refills regardless. Use HSM's own oil rather than a general lubricant; the wrong oil can gum the rollers.

How much wider is this than the standard B32?

The oiler is mounted on the side of the cabinet and takes the overall width from 497 mm to 547 mm - about two extra inches. Depth (398 mm) and height (793 mm) are unchanged. If the shredder lives in a fitted alcove or under a worktop, measure before ordering.

Is P-4 enough for HIPAA or GDPR?

Neither regulation names a DIN level. Both require that destruction make reconstruction impracticable, and P-4 is the level most organisations and their auditors settle on for ordinary personal data. For special-category data - medical records, financial account details, anything where a breach would be severe - P-5 is the more defensible choice, and your own policy should be the deciding document.

Can it shred CDs and credit cards?

Yes. HSM rates this model O-3 for optical media and T-4 for data carriers. Feed discs and cards individually rather than mixed into a stack of paper, and expect the particles to be coarser than the paper output - the rating for optical media is a separate scale from the paper rating.

How often will the bin need emptying?

HSM rates the 82-litre container at about 1,002 sheets of 4.5 x 30 mm waste. A department shredding a few hundred sheets a week will empty it every week or two. Cross-cut waste settles as it accumulates, so the inspection window in the door is a better guide than the calendar.

Does the lifetime roller warranty cover this model?

Yes. HSM's lifetime warranty on the induction-hardened cutting rollers applies to security levels P-2 through P-5, and this is a P-4 machine. Note that it covers the rollers, not the oiler, motor or electronics. We were unable to verify the general US machine warranty term from HSM's published material.
