Description

The SECURIO B32 in 3.9 mm strip cut is HSM's entry point into the B32 cabinet, and it is the finer of the two strip-cut options on this chassis. It reduces paper to narrow 3.9 mm ribbons at DIN 66399 level P-2, handling 19 to 21 sheets of 80 g/m2 paper in a single pass. Everything else about it - the 310 mm feed opening, the 82-litre pull-out bin, the 610 W motor - is shared with the rest of the B32 family, so the only thing you are choosing here is how narrow the strips are and how many sheets go through at once.

Key Features

  • Finer strips than the 1/4-inch model. At 3.9 mm the ribbon is roughly a third narrower than the 5.8 mm version of the same machine. Both are rated P-2, but the narrower strip leaves less legible text on any one piece.
  • Induction-hardened solid steel cutting rollers. HSM hardens the rollers rather than fitting a coated cutting head, which is why the machine tolerates staples and paper clips going through with the paper instead of requiring an operator to strip them out first.
  • Automatic start and stop. A light barrier across the throat starts the rollers when paper enters and stops them once the last sheet has cleared. There is no run button to hold and no habit of leaving the motor idling.
  • EcoSmart standby of 0.1 W. Left switched on overnight the cabinet draws effectively nothing, which matters when a floor has a dozen of them.
  • 82-litre pull-out container with an inspection window. You can see how full the bin is through the cabinet door instead of opening it. HSM rates this bin at about 738 sheets of 3.9 mm strip waste.
  • Quiet enough to sit in the room. Rated at approximately 56 dB(A) at idle, it is designed to live next to desks rather than in a service corridor.

What's in the Box

The HSM SECURIO B32 arrives assembled: the cutting head and cabinet are a single unit, with the 82 l (21.7 gal) waste container in place behind the cabinet door, plus the mains lead and the HSM operating manual. There is no oiler on this article — lubrication, where required, is a manual task.

Shredder bags and HSM's fitting cardboard waste box are consumables and are not included — order them with the machine if you do not intend to empty the container loose. A strip-cut head of this size is not on HSM’s routine oiling schedule, so no oil is needed to put it into service.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this if you are shredding routine internal paperwork - drafts, meeting notes, superseded printouts - in an office of roughly five to fifteen people, and your retention policy does not name a DIN security level. Strip cut is fast and cheap to run, and P-2 is honest about what it is: the shreds are narrow ribbons, not confetti.

Do not buy it for anything covered by HIPAA, GLBA or a client confidentiality agreement. Reassembling P-2 strips is tedious but entirely possible, and most compliance reviewers will expect at least a cross cut. If you need that, the SECURIO B32 at 4.5 x 30 mm gives you P-4 in the identical cabinet at 14 to 16 sheets a pass. Also skip it if you shred more than about half an hour a day continuously - the B34 chassis has a 700 W motor and a 100-litre bin and will suit you better. And if you specifically wanted the higher sheet count rather than the finer strip, the 5.8 mm B32 takes 25 to 27 sheets and usually sells for the same money.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it shred staples and paper clips?

Yes. HSM rates the induction-hardened steel cutting rollers on this model for staples and paper clips, so ordinary stapled sets can go straight in. Large binder clips, spiral bindings and thick metal fasteners are a different matter and should be removed - they are outside what HSM rates the machine for and are the usual cause of a jammed cutting head.

Will legal or tabloid paper fit?

Yes, if you feed it correctly. The throat is 310 mm wide, so anything up to 12.2 inches across will pass. Legal paper is 8.5 inches on the short edge and tabloid is 11 inches, so both go in short edge first without folding. What will not fit is a sheet fed long edge first once that edge exceeds 12.2 inches.

How many sheets can I put in at once?

HSM rates it at 19 to 21 sheets of 80 g/m2 paper, which is close to US 21 lb bond. The overview brochure quotes a higher figure because it measures with lighter 70 g/m2 stock. In practice, feeding to the top of that range every time is how cutting heads get tired; leaving a few sheets of headroom is a better habit.

How often will the bin need emptying?

HSM rates the 82-litre container at roughly 738 sheets of 3.9 mm strip waste. Strip cut does not compress well, so this is the lowest sheet count of the whole B32 family despite the identical bin. An office putting through a couple of hundred sheets a day should expect to empty it two or three times a week.

Does it need oiling?

No, not routinely. HSM specifies regular oiling for cross-cut and micro-cut heads; strip-cut rollers of this size are not on that schedule, which is one practical reason strip cut is cheaper to own. There is no automatic-oiler version of the 3.9 mm B32 for that reason.

Is this NSA approved?

No. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires a maximum particle of 1 mm x 5 mm and a current listing on the NSA Evaluated Products List. A P-2 strip cut is nowhere near that. If you have a classified-destruction requirement, you need a P-7 machine that is actually on the EPL - check the list rather than relying on a security level alone.

What is the warranty on the cutting rollers?

HSM gives a lifetime warranty on the induction-hardened solid steel cutting rollers, and that warranty applies to security levels P-2 through P-5 - which includes this model. It covers the rollers themselves, not the motor, electronics or cabinet. We could not verify the exact length of the general machine warranty for the US market from HSM's published documentation, so confirm that before ordering if it matters to you.
