The HSM SECURIO B32 1/8 inch (HSM1820) is a cabinet shredder that slices paper into 3.9 mm ribbons at DIN 66399 security level P-2, taking 19 to 21 sheets of 80 g/m² paper per pass. It is the narrower of the two strip-cut heads offered on the B32 chassis and is meant for offices disposing of everyday internal paper rather than regulated personal data.

Narrow strips versus more sheets: the choice inside the B32

HSM builds the B32 cabinet with several heads, and two of them are strip cuts. This one cuts at 3.9 mm; its sibling cuts at 5.8 mm. Both carry the same P-2 classification, so neither is "more secure" on paper. The practical difference is that a 3.9 mm ribbon carries less readable text per piece, while the wider 5.8 mm head pushes more sheets through at once. If you would rather the strips were tidier and less legible, pick this one. If your only goal is clearing paper faster, the wider head is the better fit.

The rollers are induction-hardened solid steel, which is why stapled sets and paper clips can go in without being picked apart first. Credit cards and CDs or DVDs are also on HSM's approved list, so an old access card or a stray disc does not need a second machine.

Day-to-day use of the 3.9 mm B32

A light barrier in the throat starts the cutters when paper arrives and stops them once it has cleared, and EcoSmart standby holds idle draw to 0.1 W. Idle noise is quoted at about 56 dB(A). The 82-liter container sits behind the cabinet door and has a window, so whoever walks past can see when it is getting full. Strip waste is bulky, which is why HSM's figure for this cut is 738 sheets per bin, the lowest in the B32 lineup even though the container itself is the same size.

Because strip-cut rollers of this size are not on HSM's routine oiling schedule, there is no lubrication chore and no oiler version of this head. Bags or HSM's matching cardboard box (AF500/B32) are bought separately.

Heavy, continuous users will also be better served by the B34.
