Frequently Asked Questions
Is this cut P-5 or P-6?
P-6. The 0.78 x 11 mm particle is 8.58 mm2, under the 10 mm2 P-6 area limit, and 0.78 mm wide, under the 1 mm P-6 width limit. Both tests are satisfied. Listings that call it P-5 are simply wrong; P-5 permits particles up to 30 mm2, such as HSM's 1.9 x 15 mm cut, which is a noticeably larger fragment.
What does the automatic oiler save me?
The routine of spraying shredder oil across the feed opening every few bins. On micro-cut heads that job matters - dry rollers cut poorly, run hot and load the motor. The oiler applies oil as the machine runs. It is fed from a replaceable bottle, so it is an ongoing consumable rather than a one-off feature.
Is oil included, and what should I use?
We could not confirm from HSM's documentation whether a bottle ships with the machine, so plan on ordering HSM shredder oil separately. Use HSM's own oil - generic lubricants of the wrong viscosity can leave residue that makes the problem worse rather than better.
Can it shred credit cards or CDs?
No. HSM rates this model F-3 and P-6 - film and paper only. There is no optical-media or card rating for the micro-cut B32, and the fine rollers are not designed for rigid plastic. Use a separate media destroyer, or one of the strip-cut or P-4 B32 models, which do carry O and T ratings.
How much wider is it than the standard B32?
547 mm instead of 497 mm - the oiler is mounted on the side and adds about two inches. Depth and height are unchanged at 398 x 793 mm. Measure any fitted alcove before ordering, and leave room to pull the 82-litre waste container forward.
How many sheets before the bin is full?
HSM rates the 82-litre container at approximately 818 sheets at this cut. Micro-cut waste settles as it accumulates, so the bin can look less full than it is - check through the inspection window rather than by eye when the door is open.
Is the cutting head covered by the lifetime warranty?
No. HSM's lifetime warranty on the induction-hardened cutting rollers applies to security levels P-2 through P-5, and this is a P-6 machine, so the rollers fall under the standard machine warranty instead. We could not verify the length of that standard warranty for the US market from HSM's published documentation.
