Description

This is the P-7 SECURIO B32 with HSM's external automatic oiler fitted at the factory, and on a 1 x 5 mm cutting head that is not a cosmetic upgrade. Micro-cut rollers generate the most friction of any cut in the range and lose performance fastest when they dry out; the oiler applies lubricant on a schedule rather than relying on somebody remembering. The cutting performance is identical to the standard model - a 5 mm2 particle at DIN 66399 P-7, four sheets of 80 g/m2 paper per pass.

Key Features

  • 1 x 5 mm particle at P-7. The finest paper cut HSM makes on this chassis, and the top level DIN 66399 defines for paper. There is no level above P-7.
  • External automatic oiler mounted on the cabinet. Meters shredder oil onto the rollers as the machine runs. On a P-7 head this is the difference between a cutting head that lasts and one that does not, particularly in an office where no one person owns maintenance.
  • 547 mm overall width. The oiler adds 50 mm to the standard B32 cabinet. Depth and height are unchanged at 398 mm and 793 mm.
  • 82-litre container holding roughly 1,508 shredded sheets. P-7 particles pack more densely than any other cut, so the fine output does not translate into constant bin emptying.
  • Paper only. HSM rates this model F-3 and P-7 - film and paper. Cards, discs and metal fasteners are outside what the machine is built for.
  • Shared B32 platform. 310 mm feed opening, 610 W motor, approximately 56 dB(A) at idle, light barrier automatic start and stop, 0.1 W EcoSmart standby.

What's in the Box

The HSM SECURIO B32 arrives assembled: the cutting head and cabinet are a single unit, with the 82 l (21.7 gal) waste container in place behind the cabinet door, plus the mains lead and the HSM operating manual. The external automatic oiler is mounted on the cabinet at the factory; nothing needs assembling on site.

Shredder bags and HSM's fitting cardboard waste box are consumables and are not included — order them with the machine if you do not intend to empty the container loose. We could not confirm from HSM’s published documentation whether a filled oil bottle ships with the unit, so add HSM shredder oil to your order and use HSM’s own oil rather than a generic lubricant.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this where a policy mandates P-7 and the machine will be used by more than one person. Shared high-security shredders are exactly the ones that never get oiled, and a neglected micro-cut head is an expensive failure. The oiler version costs more up front and consumes oil bottles, and it is still the cheaper option over the life of the machine in a multi-user environment.

Do not buy it if you are a single user who will happily oil the machine yourself - article 1824113 is the same shredder without the oiler and without the extra 50 mm of width. Do not buy either version as a general office shredder: four sheets per pass, paper only, and no staples makes for slow, fussy work when the requirement is really only P-4. And do not assume P-7 means NSA approval; it does not, and we have not verified an NSA Evaluated Products List entry for this model. If you need P-7 with more room, the SECURIO B34 at 1 x 5 mm has a 100-litre bin and a 700 W motor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a P-7 machine need an automatic oiler more than other cuts?

A 1 x 5 mm cutting head has more cutting edges engaged at once and far tighter clearances than a strip or cross cut, so it runs hotter and dries out faster. Oil keeps the particles releasing cleanly and stops the motor working against friction. Manual oiling is possible, but on a high-security machine used by several people it tends not to happen until performance has already degraded.

Does the oiler need refilling, and how often?

Yes - it is fed from a replaceable oil bottle, so it is a consumable cost, not a fit-and-forget feature. HSM does not publish a refill interval, which depends entirely on how much you shred. Plan to keep a spare bottle of HSM shredder oil on hand and check the level when you empty the bin.

Is a bottle of oil supplied with the machine?

We could not confirm this from HSM's published documentation. Assume it is not included and order HSM shredder oil alongside the machine. Use HSM's own oil rather than a generic lubricant - the wrong viscosity can leave residue on the rollers.

How much space does the oiler version need?

Overall width goes from 497 mm to 547 mm, roughly two extra inches. Depth stays at 398 mm and height at 793 mm. Allow clearance on the oiler side for bottle changes, and remember the waste container pulls forward out of the cabinet.

Is this NSA approved?

We have not verified an NSA Evaluated Products List entry for this model. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires both a maximum 1 mm x 5 mm particle and current EPL listing; this machine meets the particle-size requirement but that alone is not approval. If you are destroying classified material, confirm the current EPL before purchase rather than relying on the DIN rating.

Can I put stapled documents in?

No. HSM lists paper as the only material for this model, and the fine tolerances of a P-7 head make metal fasteners a real risk. Remove staples and clips first. If your workflow cannot accommodate that, the P-6 version of the B32 at 0.78 x 11 mm is rated for staples and paper clips and takes six sheets a pass.

Does the lifetime roller warranty apply to this machine?

No. HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty covers security levels P-2 to P-5, so a P-7 model is outside it and the rollers fall under the standard machine warranty. That is a genuine consideration when comparing a P-7 purchase against a P-5 one. We were not able to verify the standard US warranty period from HSM's published material.
