HSM SECURIO B32 1/32 x 3/16 Document Shredder

The HSM SECURIO B32 article 1824113 is a P-7 micro-cut shredder that reduces paper to 1 x 5 mm (about 1/32 x 3/16 in) particles, the top paper level in DIN 66399, at four sheets per pass. It shares the B32 cabinet, 82-liter bin and 610 W motor with the rest of the family, but accepts paper only. It is a specialist machine for organizations whose rules name P-7 or a 1 x 5 mm residue.

What P-7 changes compared with P-5 and P-6

P-7 is the highest paper class in DIN 66399, and the 1 x 5 mm particle sits exactly at its 5 mm² limit. To get there the cylinders work far harder per sheet than on a 1.9 x 15 mm P-5 head, so the sheet rating falls to four and HSM restricts input to plain paper. Staples and clips must come out first. A coarser machine cannot be pushed to P-7 by shredding twice; the standard rates the particle a head produces in one pass.

The surprisingly roomy bin

Tiny particles settle densely with little trapped air, which is why HSM rates the 82-liter container at about 1,508 sheets at this cut, more than any other B32 head. Check the level through the inspection window in the cabinet door. Bags and HSM's cardboard waste box for the AF500/B32 are sold separately.

Maintenance and warranty on a P-7 head

Fine heads dry out and heat up faster than coarse ones, so this cut needs regular manual oiling with HSM shredder oil, which is not included. HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty applies from P-2 to P-5, so this model relies on HSM's standard machine warranty instead. If nobody will keep up with oiling, the factory-fitted oiler version is the safer purchase.

Who needs the 1824113, and who does not

Buy it when a contract, security policy or handling procedure specifically calls for P-7 and the volume is a small, controlled flow of highly sensitive pages. Do not buy it as a general office shredder: four sheets at a time, paper only, is slow work. Also note that P-7 is not the same as NSA approval, which requires a listing on the NSA Evaluated Products List.
