Description

This is the highest paper security level HSM offers on the B32 chassis. The cutting head reduces paper to a 1 x 5 mm particle - 5 mm2, exactly at the DIN 66399 P-7 limit - which is as fine as the standard goes. Everything about the machine follows from that: four sheets per pass, paper only, and a cutting head that will not be covered by HSM's lifetime roller warranty. You buy this model because a policy requires P-7, not because it is a better office shredder.

Key Features

  • 1 x 5 mm particle at DIN 66399 P-7. P-7 is the top paper level the standard defines; there is no level above it, and any listing claiming a higher one is wrong. A single A4 sheet becomes roughly twelve thousand particles.
  • Same B32 cabinet as the rest of the family. 310 mm feed opening, 82-litre pull-out container, 610 W motor, approximately 56 dB(A) at idle. The security level changes; the footprint does not.
  • Bin holds far more sheets than a coarser cut. Because the particles are so small they pack tightly - HSM rates the 82-litre container at roughly 1,508 shredded sheets, the highest figure in the B32 range.
  • Light barrier start and stop. Automatic operation on paper entry, with the rollers stopping once the throat clears.
  • EcoSmart standby of 0.1 W. Relevant on a machine that will spend most of its life switched on and idle between short high-security jobs.
  • Available with a factory-fitted external automatic oiler. Sold separately as article 1824113O. A P-7 head needs lubrication more than any other cut on this chassis, so the oiler version is worth serious consideration.

What's in the Box

The HSM SECURIO B32 arrives assembled: the cutting head and cabinet are a single unit, with the 82 l (21.7 gal) waste container in place behind the cabinet door, plus the mains lead and the HSM operating manual. There is no oiler on this article — lubrication, where required, is a manual task.

Shredder bags and HSM's fitting cardboard waste box are consumables and are not included — order them with the machine if you do not intend to empty the container loose. This cut requires regular lubrication, and HSM shredder oil is sold separately.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this if a security policy, a government contract or a classification handling procedure names P-7 or a 1 x 5 mm particle. Nothing else on the B32 chassis will satisfy that requirement, and there is no way to reach P-7 with a coarser machine no matter how many times you run the paper through.

Do not buy it as a general office shredder. Four sheets per pass is genuinely slow - you will be feeding a 100-page report in twenty-five passes - and the machine is rated for paper only, so no cards, no discs, and staples are outside what HSM lists for this model. It also sits outside HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty, which covers P-2 to P-5, so the most expensive part of the machine has the shortest cover. If your requirement is high but not classified, the 0.78 x 11 mm B32 gives you P-6 at six sheets a pass and is a materially more usable machine. If you need P-7 but more throughput and a bigger bin, the SECURIO B34 at 1 x 5 mm takes five sheets and holds 100 litres. And note that P-7 alone is not NSA approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this NSA approved?

Not that we can verify. NSA/CSS Specification 02-01 requires a maximum residue of 1 mm x 5 mm and, critically, that the specific model appears on the current NSA Evaluated Products List. This machine meets the particle-size requirement, but we have not confirmed an EPL listing for it. If you are destroying classified material, check the current EPL yourself and do not treat a P-7 rating as equivalent to NSA approval - they are different things.

Can it shred staples and paper clips?

HSM lists paper as the only shreddable material for this model, and we would take that literally. A P-7 cutting head has very fine tolerances and metal fasteners are far more likely to damage it than they are on a strip-cut machine. Remove staples and clips before feeding. If you need a high-security machine that tolerates fasteners, the P-6 version at 0.78 x 11 mm is rated for staples and paper clips.

Why is the sheet capacity only four?

Cutting a sheet into 1 x 5 mm particles requires far more work than cutting it into strips, and the motor is the same 610 W unit used across the B32 range. Four sheets of 80 g/m2 paper is what that motor can drive through a P-7 head reliably. Pushing more in triggers the reverse cycle and, repeated often, wears the head.

What is the realistic throughput?

At four sheets a pass with a moment to reposition between feeds, plan on a few hundred sheets an hour rather than thousands. This is a machine for a small, controlled volume of highly sensitive documents - a classified destruction point, not a departmental shredder.

How often will the bin need emptying?

Less often than you would expect. HSM rates the 82-litre container at approximately 1,508 shredded sheets, more than any other B32 cut, because P-7 particles pack tightly with very little trapped air. The inspection window in the cabinet door shows the fill level without opening it.

Does it need oiling?

Yes, and more attentively than any other cut in the range. Fine particle heads run hotter and dry out faster. HSM offers this exact machine with an external automatic oiler fitted (article 1824113O); if nobody in your office will reliably oil a shredder on schedule, buy that version instead of this one.

What warranty covers the cutting rollers?

This is the honest downside of P-6 and P-7 machines: HSM's lifetime warranty on the induction-hardened cutting rollers applies to security levels P-2 through P-5 only, so it does not extend to this model. The rollers fall under the standard machine warranty instead. We could not verify the exact US warranty term from HSM's published documentation - ask before ordering.

Can I reach P-7 by running paper through a P-4 machine twice?

No. DIN 66399 rates a machine by the particle its cutting head produces in a single pass, and double-shredding is not recognised by the standard. The output would also be uncontrolled - strips fed in at random angles produce wildly inconsistent particles. If your policy says P-7, the machine has to be P-7.
