Description

This is the largest-bin machine in the batch with the least maintenance attached to it: a SECURIO B32 cutting 1.9 x 15 mm to DIN 66399 P-5, an 82-litre container rated at roughly 1,043 sheets, and an external automatic oiler that keeps the cutting cylinders lubricated on its own.

The logic is straightforward. A big bin means the machine is emptied rarely, which means nobody is standing over it noticing that it needs oil. Automating lubrication closes the gap that larger capacity opens.

Key Features

  • External automatic oiler — a side-mounted bottle meters oil onto the cylinders during operation — no scheduled task, no forgotten bottle.
  • 82-litre bin, about 1,043 sheets — the highest capacity in this range; roughly two reams between emptyings.
  • P-5 at 1.9 x 15 mm — 28.5 mm² particles within the 30 mm² DIN 66399 P-5 limit.
  • 9-11 sheets per pass — at 80 g/m², or 11-13 sheets on 70 g/m² paper.
  • 12.2-inch full-width intake — letter and legal flat, A3 and tabloid with one fold.
  • Lifetime cutting-cylinder warranty — included, since HSM’s lifetime cylinder cover runs to P-5.
  • Approximately 56 dB(A) at idle — suitable for a shared office area.

We have not been able to verify a published shipping weight for the oiler-equipped article, so the figure above is HSM’s weight for the machine alone. On the equivalent B26, the oiler module adds about 1.4 kg. Ask us if an exact delivered weight matters for your goods-in process.

What’s in the Box

  • SECURIO B32 shredder on castors with 82 L pull-out bin
  • External automatic oiler module, fitted
  • Power cord and operating instructions

Bags and oil are ordered separately: HSM1815 bags (34 gal, roll of 100, MPN 3310000004) and HSM cutting-block oil.

Consumables are the thing to plan for on a machine like this. Neither bags nor oil ship with it, and both are ordered by the box: HSM1815 bags come on a roll of 100, and HSM cutting-block oil comes in bottles sized for the oiler module. Oil use scales with shredded volume rather than time, so a machine that runs hard will get through it faster than the calendar suggests. Keeping a spare of each on the shelf is what stops a busy department from parking paper next to a full bin.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Specify this for a busy department with a P-5 requirement and no one whose job it is to maintain office equipment. It is also the sensible choice for a machine in a satellite office that facilities staff visit rarely — large bin, automatic lubrication, minimal attention.

It is over-specified for occasional shredding: the B26 at the same cut size costs less and holds about 700 sheets, which is plenty for light use. It also does not make anything faster — 9-11 sheets per pass is the same as the B26. If throughput is your bottleneck, the P-4 machines at 14-16 sheets are the answer, and if you need P-6 or P-7 you will have to accept the smaller B26 cabinet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the oiler change how often I need to touch the machine?

Substantially. Without it, a P-5 cutting head should be oiled on a regular schedule, and on a machine you only visit fortnightly to empty an 82-litre bin, that schedule tends to slip. With the oiler fitted, the routine reduces to emptying the bin and topping up the oil bottle when it runs low. Oil consumption follows shredded volume rather than elapsed time.

How much floor space do I need to allow?

The cabinet is 497 x 398 mm and stands 793 mm tall. HSM’s series data lists 547 mm width for oiler-equipped machines, so allow about two extra inches on the oiler side plus room to pull the bin out at the front. It is too tall to fit under a standard worktop — plan for a free-standing position.

Is 1.9 x 15 mm genuinely P-5?

Yes. DIN 66399 sets P-5 at a maximum 30 mm² particle area with a strip width of 2 mm or less. This cut produces 28.5 mm² particles at 1.9 mm wide, satisfying both. HSM publishes the article as P-5 with E-4, F-2 and T-5 media classes. It is not P-4, and it is not P-6.

Is this NSA approved?

No. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires a maximum particle of 1 mm x 5 mm and the model to appear on the NSA Evaluated Products List; neither applies here. P-5 is appropriate for sensitive personal, financial and health records under DIN 66399, which is what most buyers of this machine actually need. If you have a genuine NSA requirement, contact us before ordering.

What bags does it take, and how many sheets fit?

HSM1815 bags, 34 gallon, on a roll of 100 under MPN 3310000004 — the same bag as the B26, B34, AF500, Classic 125 and Pure 530/630. HSM rates the 82-litre bin at roughly 1,043 sheets of 80 g/m² paper at this cut size. Bags are not supplied with the machine.

Can it shred CDs or credit cards?

Credit cards yes, optical discs no. HSM lists paper, staples and paper clips, and credit cards for this cutting head; CDs and DVDs are not on the list at 1.9 x 15 mm. Feed cards singly. For discs, use a P-4 machine that is rated O-3, or a dedicated optical media destroyer.
