Frequently Asked Questions
What do I actually gain over the B26 at the same cut size?
Bin capacity, and nothing else. Throat width, motor, cut size, sheet rate and security level are identical. The B32 holds about 1,043 sheets against roughly 700 for the B26, so you empty it around a third as often per sheet shredded. Footprint is the same 497 x 398 mm; the extra volume comes from the cabinet being 793 mm tall instead of 676 mm.
Is 1.9 x 15 mm P-5 or P-4?
P-5. The particle area is 28.5 mm², under the 30 mm² P-5 ceiling in DIN 66399, and the 1.9 mm strip width is inside the 2 mm limit. Both conditions must be satisfied and both are, with little margin. P-4 permits up to 160 mm², so this cut is significantly finer than the common cross-cut office standard.
Can it shred CDs, DVDs or USB sticks?
No. HSM lists paper, staples and paper clips, and credit cards for the B32 at 1.9 x 15 mm. Optical discs are not included, and neither are USB drives or hard disks. The E-4 media class in the DIN table describes cut geometry, not permission to feed electronics. Use a P-4 machine for discs or a dedicated destroyer for storage devices.
How often will the bin need emptying?
HSM rates the 82-litre container at roughly 1,043 sheets of 80 g/m² paper at this cut size — about two reams. For a department shredding a few hundred sheets a week that is a fortnightly job. The bin pulls out from the front on castors, so a full container does not have to be lifted.
Is this NSA approved?
No. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires a maximum 1 mm x 5 mm particle and inclusion on the NSA Evaluated Products List. The B32 at 1.9 x 15 mm meets neither condition. P-5 is a strong commercial and regulatory level, widely specified for sensitive personal data, but it is not an NSA standard and we will not describe it as one.
Will it fit under a desk or worktop?
Probably not. At 31.2 inches tall the B32 stands roughly to hip height and is designed to sit free on the floor, on its castors, beside a print or post area. The B26 at 26.6 inches is the model that fits under most worktops, and the B24 at 23.8 inches will slide under almost any desk.
