HSM SECURIO B32 1/16 x 5/8 Cross Cut Document Shredder - HSM1822

The HSM SECURIO B32 HSM1822 is a P-5 micro-cut shredder that cuts paper to 1/16 x 5/8 in (1.9 x 15 mm) at 9-11 sheets per pass, and collects it in a 21.7-gallon (82 L) bin rated for about 1,043 sheets. It uses the same cutting head and throat as the P-5 B26 in a taller cabinet with a larger container. It is meant for departments that handle sensitive personal data every day and want fewer trips to empty the bin.

What the extra height buys you

The B32 stands 31.2 in tall against the B26's 26.6 in, yet its floor footprint is almost the same at 19.6 x 15.7 in. All of that height goes into the bin. At this cut, HSM rates the B32 container at roughly 1,043 sheets, about half again what the B26 holds. The feed rate does not change: the motor, the 12.2 in throat and the 9-11 sheet rating are shared. Buy the B32 for capacity between emptyings, not for speed.

P-5 in practice

P-5 calls for particles no larger than 30 mm² and no wider than 2 mm. At 1.9 x 15 mm this head meets both, which is why many organizations specify it for payroll, HR files, patient paperwork and legal documents. It is also the finest cut that HSM covers with its lifetime cylinder warranty. Optical discs are not on the accepted list for this head, so CDs and DVDs need a P-4 machine or a separate destroyer.

Setting up the SECURIO B32

This is a free-standing machine: it will not slide under a typical desk, so place it beside a print area or in a records room with room at the front for the bin to come out. It runs from an ordinary 110-120 V outlet, draws 0.1 W on standby, and idles at about 56 dB(A). Bags are sold separately as HSM1815 (34 gal, roll of 100, MPN 3310000004); HSM's AF500/B32 cardboard box is another option.

B32 HSM1822 or a sibling?

• B26 at 1.9 x 15 mm: identical cut and sheet rating in the shorter 14.5-gallon cabinet; cheaper and fits under worktops.

Who the HSM1822 is for

HR, finance, clinical administration or legal support teams with a steady P-5 workload and a bin that keeps filling up. Occasional users will be paying for capacity they do not need, and anyone whose real problem is speed should look at a P-4 head instead.
