The 3.9 mm strip-cut B26 is the sensible middle of HSM’s two P-2 options: narrower strips than the 5.8 mm model, so the bin holds considerably more, at the cost of a few sheets per pass. It shreds 19-21 sheets at a time and yields roughly 495 sheets per 55-litre bin.

Both cuts are DIN 66399 level P-2, so the choice between them is entirely about handling. If you empty your own bin, the 3.9 mm version is usually the one you want.

No bags are supplied. The correct consumable is the HSM1815 shredder bag (34 gal, roll of 100, MPN 3310000004).

A word on the numbers you will see elsewhere. HSM rates sheet capacity at two paper weights: 19-21 sheets on 80 g/m² stock and 22-24 on 70 g/m². US 20 lb bond is roughly 75 g/m², so on typical American copier paper the realistic figure is around twenty. A listing advertising 24 sheets is quoting the lighter European stock. Folded pages, glossy sheets and damp paper all reduce the count.

Placement is straightforward. The cabinet stands 26.6 inches high on castors, so it rolls under most worktops and out again for emptying, and it runs from an ordinary 110-120 V outlet at 610 W. Standby draw is 0.1 W under HSM’s EcoSmart control, which means there is no reason to switch it off at the wall between uses.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

A good general-purpose destruction machine for a department whose shredding is mostly non-personal: internal reports, drafts, expired literature, printer test pages. It is fast enough that people will actually use it instead of stacking paper next to it, and the bin lasts long enough not to become someone’s daily chore.

It is the wrong machine for regulated data. P-2 leaves long readable strips, and privacy standards generally expect P-4 or finer for anything identifying an individual. Step to the B26 at 4.5 x 30 mm for P-4, or 1.9 x 15 mm for P-5. If speed is the only thing that matters and the material is genuinely low-risk, the 5.8 mm B26 shreds 25-27 sheets, though you will empty its bin far more often.
