HSM SECURIO B26 1/8 Inch Strip Cut Shredder - HSM1800

The HSM SECURIO B26 HSM1800 is a 1/8 in (3.9 mm) strip-cut shredder at DIN 66399 level P-2, taking 19-21 sheets per pass into a 14.5-gallon (55 L) bin. Its narrower strip packs more tightly than the 1/4 in B26, so it goes longer between emptyings. It is a practical everyday machine for departments whose waste paper is mostly non-personal.

3.9 mm versus 5.8 mm: same security, different chores

Both B26 strip heads land at P-2, so neither protects documents better than the other. The difference is handling. The 3.9 mm strip takes a few fewer sheets each pass, but the waste compacts noticeably better: around 495 sheets fit in the bin compared with roughly 361 for the 5.8 mm head. If the person feeding the machine is also the one who empties it, this is usually the more comfortable choice.

Where the HSM1800 fits in an office

At 26.6 in tall on castors, the cabinet rolls under many worktops and back out when the front bin needs emptying. It plugs into an ordinary 110-120 V outlet and draws 610 W while cutting, with a motor rated for continuous duty, and drops to 0.1 W on standby. Expect about 55 dB(A) at idle. Bags are not included; the B26 uses HSM1815 bags (34 gal, roll of 100, MPN 3310000004).

Keep the security level in mind. A 3.9 mm strip still leaves lines of text readable along each ribbon, so payroll slips, client records and medical paperwork belong on a P-4 or P-5 cross-cut machine.

The 5.8 mm B26 (HSM1801) is the faster P-2 option at 25-27 sheets, at the cost of a bin that fills after about 361 sheets. The 4.5 x 30 mm B26 moves you to P-4 at 14-16 sheets while still accepting cards and discs. For P-5 paperwork, the 1.9 x 15 mm B26 takes 9-11 sheets.

Who the HSM1800 is for

Pick it for internal reports, drafts, expired literature and printer waste, especially where the same few people feed and empty it. Look elsewhere if any of the paper carries personal or regulated information, or if you need the absolute fastest feed, in which case the 1/4 in head is quicker.
