HSM SECURIO B26 1/4 inch Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM1801

The HSM SECURIO B26 HSM1801 is a 1/4 in (5.8 mm) strip-cut office shredder rated P-2 under DIN 66399, and at 25-27 sheets per pass it is the quickest feeder in the B26 family. It accepts paper with staples and clips, credit cards and CDs or DVDs through a 12.2 in throat. It is meant for clearing large amounts of non-personal paper, not for anything that identifies a person.

What a 5.8 mm strip does well, and where it stops

A wide strip head is the most tolerant cutter HSM fits to the B26. Crumpled pages, folded letters and stapled bundles pass through with little fuss, and the head handles a large stack in one go. P-2 under DIN 66399 is intended for internal material whose release would be awkward rather than harmful: drafts, circulars, misprints, superseded brochures.

The limit is that every strip carries a readable line of text along its length. Payroll, patient notes, customer lists and anything else with personal data needs P-4 or finer, which the cross-cut B26 models provide.

Living with the HSM1801: bin, bags and power

Wide ribbons trap a lot of air, so the 14.5-gallon bin fills after roughly 361 sheets, the smallest count of any B26 head. If you run it hard, plan on frequent emptying. The bin slides out at the front and the cabinet rolls on castors. Bags are not supplied; order HSM1815 (34 gal, roll of 100, MPN 3310000004). Standby draw under HSM's EcoSmart control is 0.1 W, so leaving it switched on costs next to nothing.

Choosing among the B26 strip and cross-cut heads

• B26 at 3.9 mm (HSM1800): also P-2, 19-21 sheets per pass, but the narrower strip packs better, so about 495 sheets fit in the bin.
• B26 at 4.5 x 30 mm (HSM1803): P-4 cross cut at 14-16 sheets, still taking cards and discs. The step to take if personal data is involved.
• B32 at 5.8 mm: the same strip and sheet rating with a 21.7-gallon container, for buyers tired of emptying.

Who should buy the HSM1801

A print room, records team or general office that needs to get rid of screened, non-sensitive paper quickly. Skip it if your policy, auditors or clients expect P-4 as a minimum, or if the bin emptying would fall on a busy person every day.
