Description

This is the SECURIO B26 in its P-5 form with HSM’s external automatic oiler fitted. The cut, the motor, the 12.2-inch throat and the 55-litre bin are identical to the standard 1.9 x 15 mm B26 — the difference is a side-mounted oil bottle that lubricates the cutting cylinders continuously instead of relying on someone to do it monthly.

Fine-cut heads are the ones that punish neglected lubrication hardest. At 1.9 x 15 mm the cylinders are doing far more work per sheet than a strip-cut head, and a dry P-5 machine gives back sheet capacity first and then jams. If the shredder lives in a corridor and belongs to no one in particular, this version is the one that will still be shredding 9-11 sheets in year three.

Key Features

  • External automatic oiler — meters oil onto the cutting cylinders in use, so lubrication tracks paper volume rather than a forgotten calendar reminder.
  • P-5 at 1.9 x 15 mm — 28.5 mm² particles against the 30 mm² DIN 66399 limit — the usual specification for HR, payroll and patient records.
  • 9-11 sheets per pass — HSM’s figure at 80 g/m²; 11-13 sheets on lighter 70 g/m² stock.
  • 55-litre pull-out bin, about 700 sheets — front-loading container; no lifting the cutting head to empty.
  • Lifetime cutting-cylinder warranty — covered, because HSM’s lifetime cylinder warranty runs from P-2 to P-5 and stops there.
  • 0.1 W EcoSmart standby — no meaningful cost to leaving it switched on.
  • Approximately 55 dB(A) at idle — suitable for an occupied office rather than a plant room.

Specifications

Security level (DIN 66399 / ISO 21964) P-5 — also rated E-4, F-2 and T-5
Cut type Particle cut (micro cut)
Cut size 1/16" x 5/8" (1.9 x 15 mm)
Sheet capacity 9-11 sheets at 80 g/m² (11-13 sheets at 70 g/m²)
Throat width 12.2" (310 mm)
Bin volume 14.5 gal (55 L) — approximately 700 sheets before emptying
Motor 610 W, continuous duty
Voltage 110-120 V / 60 Hz
Noise level approx. 55 dB(A) at idle
Dimensions (W x D x H) 19.6" x 15.6" x 26.6" (497 x 397 x 676 mm), cabinet excluding the oiler module
Weight 58.6 lb (26.6 kg), machine as published by HSM for this article
Shreddable materials Paper, staples and paper clips, credit cards
Warranty Lifetime warranty on the induction-hardened solid steel cutting cylinders

HSM’s B26 series data lists the oiler-equipped cabinet at 547 mm wide against 497 mm for the standard machine, while the individual article datasheet still prints the standard cabinet dimensions. Allow roughly two extra inches of side clearance and measure before fitting this into a tight alcove.

What’s in the Box

  • SECURIO B26 shredder on castors with 55 L pull-out bin
  • External automatic oiler module, fitted
  • Power cord and operating instructions

Bags are not included, and neither is replacement oil. Order HSM1815 bags (34 gal, roll of 100, MPN 3310000004) and HSM cutting-block oil alongside the machine.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Choose this over the plain 1.9 x 15 mm B26 when the machine is shared, unsupervised, and expected to hold its rated throughput for years. It also makes sense where facilities staff maintain equipment across several sites and would rather not schedule a shredder-oiling visit.

It is poor value for a single-user machine that one person will happily oil, or for low-volume use where the cylinders barely accumulate hours. It is also the wrong machine if you actually need more bin: the SECURIO B32 at the same 1.9 x 15 mm cut holds about 1,043 sheets in 82 litres and is available with the same oiler. For P-6 or finer, look at the B26 at 0.78 x 11 mm — but note the lifetime cylinder warranty does not follow you there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the automatic oiler replace all maintenance?

It replaces the routine oiling, which is the task most offices skip. You still empty the bin, keep the intake clear of paper dust, and top up the oil bottle when it runs low. The oiler meters lubricant while the machine runs, so consumption follows actual shredding volume. What it buys you is consistency: a P-5 cutting head that is always lubricated keeps hitting 9-11 sheets instead of drifting down to seven.

How much wider is the machine with the oiler fitted?

HSM’s series data for the B26 lists 547 mm width for oiler-equipped machines versus 497 mm standard, so plan on about two extra inches on one side. Confusingly, HSM’s per-article datasheet for this SKU still prints the standard 497 mm cabinet. Depth and height are unaffected at 397 x 676 mm. If the machine is going into a fitted alcove, measure the opening first.

What oil does it use, and can I use a generic substitute?

Use HSM cutting-block oil. Generic substitutes are a false economy here: vegetable oils polymerise and gum the cylinders, thin machine oils run off before they do any good, and aerosol lubricants must never be sprayed near a shredder motor. Replacement bottles are a separate order from the machine and from the bags.

Is this NSA approved?

No. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires a maximum 1 mm x 5 mm particle and the specific model to be listed on the NSA Evaluated Products List. This one cuts 1.9 x 15 mm and is not listed. P-5 is appropriate for personal, financial and medical records under DIN 66399 and most commercial retention policies, but it is not a substitute for an NSA-listed machine.

Can I add an oiler to a B26 I already own?

The oiler is a factory-fitted option on this article number rather than something we recommend improvising. If you already have a standard B26 and want automatic lubrication, contact us with your serial number before ordering parts — whether a retrofit is practical depends on the machine’s build date, and buying the oiler-equipped article outright is often the cleaner answer.

How often will the bin need emptying?

About every 700 sheets of 80 g/m² paper, which is HSM’s figure for the 55-litre container at this cut size. Roughly a ream and a half to two reams. Fine particles settle, so giving the bin a shake before you decide it is full often buys another day.
