HSM SECURIO B24 1/4 Inch Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM1781

The HSM SECURIO B24 1/4 in Strip Cut (HSM1781) is the fastest shredder in HSM's deskside lineup, taking 25-27 sheets per pass and cutting them into 5.8 mm strips at DIN 66399 level P-2. Its 610 W drive is built for continuous operation, and it is also rated for CDs, DVDs and cards. Mail rooms, print rooms and shared floors that need large volumes of ordinary paper gone quickly are its intended home, not offices handling confidential records.

Built for throughput, not secrecy

Twenty-five sheets at a time is roughly triple what a P-5 machine manages, and that is what keeps a shared shredder usable at busy moments. The figure comes from HSM's datasheet for article 1781111, the EU twin of US part 1781123, measured on 80 g/m² paper; US 20 lb copy paper is around 75 g/m², so it holds up in practice. Card stock, glossy paper and folded sheets lower it.

The trade-off is security. A 5.8 mm strip can be reassembled by anyone with patience, so it is not a defensible standard for payroll, client files or health information. O-2 also leaves fairly large disc fragments, fine for retiring old software discs but not for media that held sensitive data. Feed discs one at a time, never alongside paper.

Bin, paper sizes and upkeep

Strip-cut waste is fluffy and does not compact, so the 35 L bin is rated at only about 223 sheets, which is the honest weak point at this speed. A liner makes emptying easier; HSM's 13-gallon tear-resistant bag (3310000014) fits the B24, and bags are not supplied. Legal paper fits short edge first through the 9.45 in throat; tabloid must be folded, and a folded sheet counts as two. This head is the least demanding in the range for lubrication, though occasional oiling still helps. The cabinet weighs 33.1 lb and idles at 54 dB(A).

Who should buy the 1/4 in B24

Print rooms, post rooms, warehouse offices and shared points where mixed media, discs, cards and paper, should go through one machine that will fit where a full-height cabinet will not. Look elsewhere if the paper identifies people; a finer cut in the same chassis means fewer sheets and losing the disc rating, so high-security paper plus disc destruction usually means two machines.
