Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this if a contract, a client's security schedule or an internal classification says P-6 and you want the smallest machine that meets it. Research groups, professional services handling special-category data, and firms working to a customer's security annex are the usual buyers.

Do not buy it for general office paper. Six sheets per pass is slow, and the head is rated for paper and film only - no cards, no CDs, no plastic badges. There is also a warranty consideration that is easy to miss: HSM's lifetime warranty on the induction-hardened cutting rollers applies to P-2 through P-5 machines, so moving from the P-5 B24 to this one gives up that cover. If P-5 satisfies your policy, the 1/16" x 5/8" B24 takes 9-11 sheets, handles cards and keeps the lifetime roller warranty. If you need to go higher, note that P-6 is not P-7 and is not NSA-listed - for that you need the 1/32" x 3/16" B24.
