HSM SECURIO B24 1/32 x 7/16 Document Shredder - HSM1785

The HSM SECURIO B24 1/32 x 7/16 in (HSM1785) is the P-6 version of HSM's compact B24 cabinet, cutting paper into 0.78 x 11 mm particles of about 8.6 mm² at six sheets per pass. It is meant for organizations with a DIN level 6 requirement in a policy or contract that cannot fit or justify a floor-standing machine. It still accepts staples and paper clips, but not cards or discs.

What separates P-6 from P-5

P-6 requires a particle no larger than 10 mm² and a strip width of no more than 1 mm. The 0.78 mm width is what lifts this head past P-5, and the resulting area comes in at roughly 8.6 mm². DIN 66399 defines seven paper levels, so P-7, at 5 mm² or less, is the only step above. Each letter sheet ends up as something like 5,700 particles.

The practical cost of level 6 in a small cabinet

Doing that much cutting with a 610 W motor limits each pass to six sheets. A stapled six-page document is already the full load. The bin also fills sooner than on the P-5 head: very fine particles trap air and raise dust, so the same container takes about 339 sheets before the automatic bin-full stop. With light-barrier start and stop, 0.1 W EcoSmart standby, castors, an inspection window and an idle level near 54 dB(A), the rest of the machine is standard B24. It is Blue Angel certified and built in Germany.

Warranty is the other difference to note. HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty covers SECURIO shredders from P-2 to P-5, so this model relies on the 3-year machine warranty. The rollers are the same induction-hardened steel; the distinction is contractual. Bags are extra: HSM part 3310000014, a 13-gallon roll of 100.

• SECURIO B35 1/32 x 7/16 in: the same P-6 particle at 9 sheets, with a 15.75 in throat and a 34.3 gal bin of around 1,300 sheets, but it weighs 118 lb and needs floor space.
• B24 1/16 x 5/8 in: P-5 at 9-11 sheets with credit cards accepted and the lifetime roller warranty intact.
• B24 1/32 x 7/16 in with external automatic oiler: this cut with oiling handled for you.

Who it suits

Research groups with pre-publication data, legal teams on sealed matters and subcontractors whose client contract names DIN level 6 will find this the smallest and least expensive way to comply. Do not choose it simply because more security sounds better: six sheets is slow, and a shredder people avoid protects less than a well-used P-5. It is also not NSA listed, since the 11 mm length is more than double the 5 mm limit.
