Description

This is the 1 x 5 mm SECURIO B24 - DIN 66399 P-7, and the HSM office shredder listed on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List - supplied with HSM's external automatic oiler. The oiler is not a convenience item on a machine like this. A P-7 head cuts a single sheet into roughly twelve thousand particles, which generates a great deal of paper dust, and an unlubricated cutting block loses capacity and starts stalling within weeks of regular use. In a secure facility where several people use the shredder and nobody personally owns it, automatic dosing is what keeps the machine to specification. Everything else matches the standard model: 610 W continuous-duty drive, 9.45" throat, 9.2-gallon bin.

Key Features

  • External automatic oiler included – Doses the cutting block on a schedule, which is the single most effective way to keep a P-7 machine at its rated four sheets.
  • DIN 66399 P-7 at 1 x 5 mm – 5 mm² particles, the finest paper class the standard defines.
  • On the NSA/CSS EPL for paper shredders – The Securio B24 (L6) entry on the January 2026 list is this 1 x 5 mm configuration.
  • 610 W drive specified for continuous operation – Necessary headroom for a cutting head that works this hard per sheet.
  • 9.2-gallon container rated at about 626 sheets – P-7 waste settles tightly, so the bin goes a long way despite the fine cut.
  • Deskside cabinet, about 54 dB(A) idle – Compact and quiet for a machine at this security level.

Specifications are taken from HSM's datasheet for article 1784111, the EU-market equivalent of US part 1784113O. Sheet capacities are quoted at 80 g/m²; HSM's range brochure quotes higher figures measured at 70 g/m².

What's in the Box

Supplied assembled with the pull-out 9.2-gallon bin and the external automatic oiler unit that distinguishes this SKU from the standard 1/32" x 3/16" B24. Refill oil is an ongoing consumable and should be HSM cutting-block special oil - nothing else. Shredder bags are not included; HSM lists one reusable collecting bag for the 104, 105, 108, 420, AF150, AF300, B22 and B24, sold in the US as HSM 1310.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This configuration suits a cleared facility, a government contractor's document room or any shared secure area where a P-7 requirement is written down and the shredder has no single owner. Automatic oiling matters most precisely where accountability for maintenance is diffuse, and that describes most secure shared workspaces.

If one named person will look after the machine, the identical 1/32" x 3/16" B24 without the oiler costs less and performs the same. If your requirement is P-6 rather than P-7, the 1/32" x 7/16" B24 is faster at six sheets a pass. If your policy stops at P-5, the 1/16" x 5/8" B24 takes 9-11 sheets, destroys magnetic-stripe cards as well as paper, and retains HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty - which does not extend to P-6 or P-7 machines. Be realistic about the four-sheet capacity before committing: it changes how a floor uses its shredder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the automatic oiler change the security rating?

No. The oiler is a lubrication accessory mounted externally; the cutting head, the 1 x 5 mm particle size and the P-7 rating are identical to the version sold without it. What it changes is how long the machine holds that performance in service. The NSA/CSS EPL entry for the Securio B24 (L6) applies to the shredder, not to the oiler option.

How often does the oiler need refilling?

That depends entirely on how much paper the machine processes, and HSM does not publish a consumption figure we can quote. Treat the reservoir as something to check when you empty the bin. Use HSM cutting-block special oil - aerosols, penetrating oils and vegetable oils leave residues that harden between the cutting discs and cause exactly the problem the oiler exists to prevent.

Is it really NSA approved?

The SECURIO B24 is listed on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List for paper shredders dated January 2026 as Securio B24 (L6), medium volume. HSM's Level 6 designation is the 1 x 5 mm cutting head, which is this machine. The list requires reduction of paper to particles of 1 mm x 5 mm or smaller. Verify the current EPL directly before making a compliance commitment; the list is revised periodically.

What is the sheet capacity?

Four sheets of 80 g/m² paper, from HSM's datasheet for article 1784111. It is low by design - the cutting head reduces each page to about twelve thousand particles. HSM's range brochure quotes capacities against lighter 70 g/m² paper and will therefore look more generous. For planning purposes with US 20 lb copier paper, four sheets is the figure to use.

Can it shred anything other than paper?

No. This head carries F-3 and P-7 ratings only - film and paper. It is not rated for CDs, DVDs, credit cards or ID badges, and rigid plastic in a 1 mm cutting head risks roller damage that would not be covered. Facilities working at this security level normally pair the shredder with a separate optical media destroyer and a drive shredder or degausser.

Is the cutting roller warranty affected by the higher security level?

Yes, and it is worth knowing before you buy. HSM's lifetime warranty on the induction-hardened solid steel cutting rollers applies to its P-2 to P-5 machines. A P-7 head is excluded from that cover. We have not verified a specific US machine warranty period for this model and will not state one - ask us before ordering if that detail is material to your decision.

How many users can share it?

Fewer than the B24 chassis would otherwise suggest. The drive is specified for continuous operation, but at four sheets per pass a queue builds quickly, so realistically this is a machine for a small secure team rather than an open floor. Where a whole department needs P-7 destruction, most sites run a shredder per work area or collect material into a scheduled destruction run instead.
