This configuration pairs the P-5 SECURIO B24 with HSM's external automatic oiler, and the oiler is the reason to choose it. Micro-cut heads fail in one predictable way: paper dust builds between the cutting discs, sheet capacity falls, and the machine starts jamming on six sheets when it used to take eleven. Manual oiling prevents that, and in practice nobody does it consistently. The automatic unit doses the cutting block on a schedule instead. Underneath it is a straightforward P-5 departmental shredder - 1.9 x 15 mm particles, 9-11 sheets per pass, a 610 W drive HSM rates for continuous operation, and a 9.2-gallon pull-out bin.

What's in the Box

The shredder arrives assembled with its pull-out 9.2-gallon bin, and the external automatic oiler unit is supplied with it - that is what distinguishes this SKU from the standard P-5 B24. Refill oil is a consumable and will need reordering; use HSM cutting-block special oil only. Shredder bags are not included. HSM lists one reusable collecting bag covering the 104, 105, 108, 420, AF150, AF300, B22 and B24, catalogued in the US as HSM 1310.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is a good purchase for a department that has settled on P-5 and knows from experience that maintenance does not get done. Shared machines in finance, HR, legal and clinical administration are exactly where automatic oiling pays for itself, because no individual owns the machine and nobody reaches for the oil bottle.

Do not pay for the oiler if a single person is responsible for the shredder and will actually oil it - the standard 1/16" x 5/8" B24 is the same machine for less money. Do not choose P-5 at all if your requirement is higher: the 1/32" x 7/16" B24 reaches P-6 and the 1/32" x 3/16" B24 reaches P-7 and is the HSM office model listed on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List. Be aware that both of those sacrifice HSM's lifetime cutting-roller warranty, which stops at P-5.
