HSM SECURIO B22 1/8 inch Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM1830

The SECURIO B22 in the 1/8" strip cut is the finest of the two strip-cut heads HSM offers on this chassis, and it exists for one reason: it gives you a narrower strip than the standard 1/4" model without moving to a slower particle cutter. At 3.9 mm wide the strips are still DIN 66399 P-2 - the same class as the 1/4" version - so this is not a security upgrade, it is a tidiness and bin-density one. Sheet capacity is 13-15 at 80 g/m², and the machine is the entry point into HSM's B-series: German-built, 440 W, 9.45" throat, with a pull-out 8.7-gallon bin.

What's in the Box

The B22 arrives assembled: cutting head, cabinet and pull-out waste bin in one piece. Shredder bags are not included. HSM lists a single reusable collecting bag covering the 104, 105, 108, 420, AF150, AF300, B22 and B24 - in the US catalogue this is normally sold as HSM part 1310. Cutting-block oil is also a separate accessory, although a strip-cut head at this size needs it far less often than a micro-cut machine does.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is the right machine for a small office or a shared workstation that shreds a moderate amount of ordinary paper: internal memos, drafts, delivery notes, superseded printouts. It is quick, it is compact enough to live beside a desk, and it is built to a standard that survives daily use for years.

It is the wrong machine if what you are destroying is personal data. P-2 strips can be reassembled - not casually, but by anyone motivated - and no serious data-protection policy accepts strip cut for client or employee records. If that is your material, move to the SECURIO B22 in 1/8" x 1 1/8" for P-4 or 1/16" x 5/8" for P-5, both on this identical chassis. It is also the wrong machine if you need to destroy CDs: the 1/4" B22 carries an O-2 optical media rating and this one does not. And if you want maximum speed at P-2 rather than narrower strips, the 1/4" model takes 17-19 sheets to this one's 13-15.
