HSM SECURIO B22 1/4 Inch Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM1831

The HSM SECURIO B22 1/4 in (model 1831) is a P-2 strip-cut shredder that slices paper into 5.8 mm (1/4 in) strips at 17-19 sheets per pass, the fastest of the four B22 versions. It is also the only B22 rated for CDs and DVDs, alongside cards and paper. It is meant for general offices, mail rooms and print rooms that need routine paper gone quickly, not for records containing personal data.

Speed first: what a 5.8 mm strip is good for

Strip cutters make a single lengthwise cut, which is why this head moves paper through faster than any particle cutter on the same 440 W chassis. The flip side is security. P-2 allows strips up to 800 mm², so a motivated person could piece a page back together. That is acceptable for drafts, delivery notes, internal memos and superseded printouts, and not for client, patient or employee records. The O-2 disc rating suits retiring old software or backup CDs that held nothing sensitive; it is not a high-security media standard.

Daily use on the B22 1/4 in

Paper entering the 9.45 in (240 mm) throat starts the motor automatically, and the feed has overload protection, which guards against the main cause of jams on strip cutters. Stapled and clipped documents go straight in; remove binder clips, ring-binder spines and laminated pouches. Feed discs one at a time. HSM gives no duty-cycle figure for the B22, so treat it as a machine for intermittent use through the day. The 5.8 mm strip head needs less oil than any other cutter in the range, though HSM cutting-block oil is still worth having. Bags are not included; HSM's reusable collecting bag (US part HSM 1310) is the listed consumable.
