HSM SECURIO B22 1/16 x 5/8 Cross Cut Document Shredder - HSM1832

The HSM SECURIO B22 1/16 x 5/8 (model 1832) is a compact P-5 micro-cut shredder that reduces each sheet to 1.9 x 15 mm particles and takes 7-9 sheets per pass. It is the highest security level HSM builds on the B22 chassis, in a cabinet small enough to sit beside a desk. It is a good fit for a law firm, accountancy, clinic back office or HR team that handles sensitive records in folders rather than archive boxes.

P-5 security in the smallest HSM B-series cabinet

Most P-5 machines are departmental units. The B22 delivers the same 1.9 x 15 mm particle as the larger SECURIO B24 and AF500 in a 375 x 310 x 600 mm cabinet weighing 27.5 lb (12.5 kg). DIN 66399 sets the P-5 ceiling at 30 mm², roughly a fifth of the area allowed at P-4, which is why policies for medical files, legal case papers and financial records commonly name it. The T-5 rating means bank and ID cards can be destroyed to the same class. There is no optical media rating, so CDs and DVDs need another machine.

The price of fine particles is speed: at 7-9 sheets per pass this is the slowest of the four B22 heads, so it works best for one or two regular users rather than a queue.

Safety and care for a fine cutting head

A safety element over the intake keeps fingers and lanyards away from the rollers, and automatic start-stop with overload protection reduces the jams fine cutters are prone to. Staples and paper clips are fine. Micro-cut rollers collect paper dust, so oil with HSM cutting-block special oil each time the bin is emptied; never use aerosol lubricants or vegetable oil. Bags are not included; this model's listed consumable is HSM's reusable collecting bag, catalogued in the US as HSM 1310.

• B22 1/4 in strip (P-2): 17-19 sheets and a disc rating, but strip cut is not suitable for personal data.
• SECURIO B24 1/16 x 5/8: the same P-5 particle with 9-11 sheets, a 610 W motor built for continuous running and a 9.2-gallon bin.
• AF500 1/16 x 5/8: P-5 with a 500-sheet automatic tray for departments.

Is the B22 P-5 right for you?

Buy it if you need a defensible P-5 standard in a small, desk-side machine for one or two people. If several colleagues will share it daily, the B24 at the same cut handles more volume; if you also shred discs, plan for a second machine.
