HSM SECURIO AF300 1/32 x 7/16 AutoFeed Cross Cut Document Shredder - HSM2095

The HSM SECURIO AF300 1/32 x 7/16 (model 2095) is a P-6 high-security shredder that reduces paper to 0.78 x 11 mm particles and feeds itself from a 300-sheet tray. Hand-feeding at this level is slow, since only 6 sheets fit through the manual slot per pass, so the tray is what makes P-6 practical for daily volumes. It is built for legal, research and contract teams whose destruction standard specifically calls for P-6.

Why 0.78 x 11 mm counts as P-6, not P-5

DIN 66399 sets two limits for P-6: a particle area of no more than 10 mm² and a strip width of no more than 1 mm. This head cuts 0.78 mm wide strips into 11 mm lengths, which works out at 8.58 mm². The area alone would also satisfy P-5, which is why the cut is sometimes misfiled, but the width limit is what places it a class higher. Compared with the 28.5 mm² particle of the P-5 AF300, the fragments are about a third of the size.

Living with a P-6 autofeed machine

A head this fine makes more cuts per sheet, so the tray clears more slowly than on the P-4 or P-5 versions. The steel rollers are rated for paper with staples and paper clips, yet it pays to route heavily stapled bundles through the manual slot rather than the tray. Fine dust also builds up faster, and with no automatic oiler, oiling with HSM shredder oil should be part of every few bag changes.

Two trade-offs come with the class. The machine accepts paper and film only. And HSM's lifetime roller warranty stops at P-5, so on this model the cutting rollers fall under the 3-year machine warranty like everything else.

Choosing a cut on the AF300 chassis

• AF300 1/16 x 5/8 (P-5): 8-10 sheets by hand, accepts credit cards and keeps the lifetime roller warranty.
• AF300 3/16 x 1 1/8 (P-4): 12-14 sheets manually and the only AF300 rated for CDs and DVDs.
• AF150 1/32 x 7/16: the same P-6 particle with a 150-sheet tray and 5 sheets by hand.
• AF350 1/32 x 7/16: P-6 again, with a 350-sheet tray in a taller cabinet.

Who should buy the P-6 AF300

It is the right machine when a contract, client or internal rule names P-6 and you shred more than a few sheets a day. If the requirement is simply regulated personal data, the P-5 version is quicker, accepts cards and costs less, so buy this one only when the higher class is genuinely required.
